Charlie MacDonald

Southend have signed Ebbsfleet United striker Charlie MacDonald, who has put pen to paper on a two-year deal.

MacDonald, 26, moves on a free transfer after rejecting a new deal at the Conference club formerly known as Gravesend & Northfleet.

He scored 40 goals in 63 appearances for the Fleet after joining from Crawley Town in the summer of 2005.

"I've had a burning desire to come back and play League football for the last few years," he told Southend's website.

"I have never doubted my ability to score goals at any level. But I'm not the new Freddy Eastwood, I'm the next Charlie MacDonald and I want to show the fans who I am in my own right."

MacDonald began his career as a trainee at Charlton, but started only one league game for them.

He had loan spells at Cheltenham, Torquay and Colchester before free transfer moves to Margate, Stevenage, Crawley and Gravesend.
