We've just signed Charlie Macdonald on a 2 year deal. Head over to www.southendunited.co.uk for confirmation. Just wanted to know what he's like really and do you think he'll be able to cut it in league 1?

He will do alright, as long as he's playing and won't be stuck on the bench.

 

Think himself and Freddy Eastwood will be a good partnership up front. Southend are going back up this time next year.

Obviously he is highly regarded by you lot, and his scoring record is very impressive, but will he do it in League One and beyond.

Well all the best to Charlie, as I have said before he deserves the chance at a higher level and I hope he does well for Southend. The Fleet will certainly miss him and we have a hole to fill!!!!

Charlie MacDonald scored some great goals for us, the two goals I remember was Boreham Wood Away in the FA Trophy, the turn on the volley, and his final goal for the Fleet against St. Albans City, the 30 yard shot from the tight acute angle.

Remember he started life at Charlton and broke into the first team at a very young age and scored a few.

 

He was then considered a little slow and small for the Premiership.

 

After they bombed him out he drifted a bit and bounced around 2 or 3 non-league sides before being signed by the Fleet. All the time he stays fit he is an excellent striker and works very hard. He will be good for Southend I think, if they play football on the deck and pass it into him. Long balls are of no use to him.

 

I wish him well, but selfishly, hope he doesn't quite crack it and comes back to the Fleet
