amazes me seeing players like Nicky Cowley(who i rate very highly) Michael Begg, deciding to play ESL football,(altough for a good club like Concord),and not testing their ability at ryman level where better football is played.Nicky Cowley won twice the ESL and is still playing at this level.I believe the aim for every decent footballer is to play at the highest level he can. What can i say?May be they embraced the Concord project? But so Brentwood and Hornchurch...i don't really know what to think... crazy

I agree Coachey. I always tried to play at the highest level possible...no jokes please....and don't understand why people want to stay in the ESL. Maybe its family or work reasons but more likely to do with cash and silverware.

Family ties and family commitments (not to mention work) ought to register highly and maybe that is the main influence on the decisions made by NC and MB.

Michael Begg is very fast and has a very high work-rate. I thought he went off the boil a bit towards the end of the season -it seemed to coincide with a leg injury. He seemed to team up well with Sean Thomas at Brentwood (when he got the chance)

Concord are very lucky to get them - and I wish them well

ha ha...you wouldn't have said that coachey if they had signed for you....not all football players want a career at a higher level...some want to do their own thing....

I turned down roma and ac milan for a nice easy life....it happens... grin

There's a lot to be said for playing football just for the sheer bloody enjoyment of it, without feeling to need to progress and push to play at a higher standard/level.

Perhaps they find that element of competition in other parts of their lives.

Good luck to them and CRFC.

coachey I know you somtimes mean well on here but nicky and danny are quite serious about their careers and football success is a close second to them in terms of priorities...probably third in danny's case now he's married with a new home..

I offered danny a load of cash a few years ago to contract himself to us full time and he turned me down...wasn't interested in the money...just wanted a guarantee to play football...same with them both last season....they never left us for money...there was more if they stayed...they just wanted to start every saturday

I don't somehow think that these sort of posts are endearing you to other esl clubs and players...

Good luck to the cowleys at concord even though i hope we stuff them when we play them laugh

On a note about players playing higher i want to say well done to Petrit Elbi who has got himself a trial at Dagenham and Redbridge in pre season and i hope he pushes on to bigger and better things.

My post wasn't just aimed at the Cowleys, e.g. When I got bombed from Leyton Orient as a youngster, instead of going to a Non-League team, I went and played for a works team with a load of mates in a Business House League (South London Alliance).

The pitches were all like manicured lawns and owned by the likes of Bank of England, Baltic Exchange, RACS etc. Our home pitch was Unilever's (Now Charlton Athletic's training ground). I loved every minute and stayed there for 15 years.

I did temporarily spend some time at Leytonstone FC, but I'd clearly lost the desire and hunger to compete at that level, it was all kick, bollock and bite!!!

My only regret is I never got to play in the FA Cup, not even in the Extra Preliminary Round.

Uncle,as far as i know Danny is the Fitzwimarc pe teacher and we both know there is no safety in football so if he turned you down it must have been because he went for a nice secure little job as a teacher rather than taking the risk with a Conference club that these days could easily have financial problems .Sure Nicky would have started at Brentwood in rym 1 next year unless they are buying big.... :)I really like him as a player, may be he has decided to join his brother that is moving his first steps into management confusedit's a shame because it's definitely a player of higher standard.I think he has embraced Antony's vision of a galacticos Concord. We shall see... bandit
