New Shirt Sponsor Announced

Recommended Posts

St Albans City Football Club is pleased to announce that the shirt sponsors for the 2007/08 season will be Oaklands College. This is considered to be a major coup for the club and further strengthens the relationship between the two organisations."It is a positive move which not only advertises our growing relationship with Oaklands College but it also advertises our commitment and association to youth development in the area" said Karen Gibson, Director of the club and responsible for The Youth Academy.

Interesting choice in my opinion!

That Webbo chap isn't having a good week, Altria, and it will get worse if the FA see his continued references to our "Youth Academy".

I think he'll find that it can only be called an Academy when we're in the Premiership, according to their rules. Until then, PASE, or whatever, it should stay.

As far as the sponsorship is concerned, whaddyamean 'interesting choice'? Presumably their only other choices were The Wooood, Potters Bar Town or Saracens RFC. No contest there, IMHO.

Major coup! Really? I wonder how much it's worth and how long the college has commited to the sponsorship.

The very best, no nicest, deal that I heard about was the Barcelona shirt sponsorship. Apologies if you've heard this before and if the figures aren't entirely accurate.

Apparently, Barca have never had a shirt spoonsor as they condsider themselves to be above that kind of stuff.

Anyway. Off they go to Boutros Boutros Boutros Kofi Blend 37 whateverhisnameis and say "Oi. Senor. We are the Mighty Barca and if you let us put the UNICEF logo on the front of our shirts we'll pay you $5 squillion. How fair can that be?"

"Que?," said the UN Secrearty-General, "you'll pay us?"

"Si," said the Barca bloke.

And they did.

It can't get any more cool than that.

[Perhaps Gibbo did something similar with Oaklands. Although Unicef has a little more of a 'cachet' in my view.]

That's not fair the reason is because they are the club of the people for the people owned by the people and felt that it would be selling out if they had sponsorship on their shirts.

I think everyone would agree that the current UNICEF deal is very good for World awareness of poverty.

And by the way did i mention the people !

It would be interesting to know the terms of this arrangement, did Oaklands cough up the 15K or whatever or has some deal been brokered? For a college that replies on grants and sponsorship from companies itself I find it hard to believe they would have paid a reasonably large sum of money to have their name on some football shirts.

Saints shirts as compulsary 'school uniform'?

Detentions held on Saturdays at 3pm on York Road to boost attendences?

With a couple of thou students there, the deal could pay for itself in no time...
