Pre Season Friendly

AK has just confirmed to me that we have another pre season friendly to add to the list.

It's Tuesday 17th July, away to Welling United at Park View Road, kick off 7.45pm.

Off to Tunbridge Wells today for ( hopefully) a bit of cricket....so that's why it's 'kin raining !! Oh well, it might brighten up later.....there's always the beer tent for refuge !!

I note from today's NLP that our pre-season friendly on the 1st August is now against a "Charlton Athletic XI". Aldershot however are listed to play "Charlton Athletic" in a testimonial for Paul Shrubb. The implication is that the Shots rather than the Fleet will be playing host to their first team.

I know for the Charlton website that they are playing two games that night, but it has been said by Alan Pardew that he will split his squad and send strong ones to both games, so hopefully a few of the prospective first teamers will make an apperance at Stonebridge Road, and I will be there to see two of the teams I love.

Thanks for this information. It seems that we can be a bit more positive about the opposition to be fielded for this fixture. Unfortunately the Fleet have a bit if a history of potentially attractive pre-season friendlies ending up as games against reserves/youth players and trialists.

 

On the same evening Welling are listed to be playing West Ham United. It will be interesting to discover who turns out in these two games and whether our being advertised to be playing an "XI" is ultimately more honest than the implied promise of first team players in the other fixture.

It won't matter what team Charlton turn out if the match isn't promoted properly, no publicity = no crowd.
