So who have got in place

TQA

Recommended Posts

Jeez, haven't we all gone sour?

Players come and players go, but Margate FC goes on.

We are doing a disservice to the brilliant lads we have got - Pinns, Jay, Jimmy, Skins, Scotty, Louis, Deano, now Yianni, who I apologise for not remembering, but if Trotty sees fit to sign him then he must have something, not to mention Rob, and anyone else I may have missed. Most teams in the division would want them. For goodness sake, we will get others and have a team and walk out on the first day of the season with expectation and excitement as usual.

I AM SO SICK OF ALL THIS CARPING. The close season is bad enough without having to put up with a constant drip drip of criticism of everything and everyone Margate.

And tell me when we get injuries or suspensions who will fill the breaches look outside the box, if we lose the players highlighted at the beginning of this thread, was it not cover in depth that had a critical impact, its great to have a player coming in but we must try to keep the players coming through.

From what I saw last year we have at least three who should imo be protected

Kenny Pratt

Karl Barron

Heath

How is this going to happen from what I hear all are on there way out that leaves eighteens only who need another year in the reserves before they are ready to cover.

We lose Whisker and the rest that leaves those behind from what BigTW has said they will go so I ask again who will fill the gaps.

Pratt – Barron partnership looked very good in the reserves we must keep one of them at least, any news Bigtw? Heath a must keep.

the u18's are not going to remain 18 forever and can we stop giving the reserve players a false sense of security. Yeah they maybe fantastic for the reserves, which indeed they are, but it does not mean that they are going to be just as good in the first team. Hopefully we will find out in pre-season.

I think TQA puts very clearly what we are all thinking.

I guess it comes down to money though and fact that we need these fringe players on some form of contracts.

In a way, i suspect club and supporters were a bit caught out and surprised how well the reserves performed and thereby what a good job MW must have done putting that side together.

Somehow, financial support needs to be found for the reserves-easy said-hard to do.

Comes down to the same old thing i guess-more through the attendance at first team and reserve fixtures and more sponsorship.

It seemed hard enough last season for the club to organise in a timely fashion shirt sponsorship for the first team.

I wonder if this season-sponsorship opportunities could be found and promoted for the reserves-harder here i guess -as you don't normally get a 'settled nucleus of reserves until you are into the season.

Is it may be worth a gamble of putting reserves on contract of 2 years-if for example DD,DW and SH (who i think was on a one year contract )had been given 2 year contracts ) were on contracts of say £150 week over 40 weeks that would cost £6000 per player.

Are they likely to command a transfer fee of £6000 if someone comes poaching-almost certainly not.

Thus you can't blame the club for not giving them contracts as the maths don't work.

For all we bleat and feel disapppointed-me as much as most- problem being-we have not got the answers.

All suggestions welcome i guess'but you end up i imagine with players wanting to play for the club and manager they most respect and can learn most from .

It's all good and well needing depth in the squad, which I'm all for. But if the players aren't good enough, there's no point in keeping them just to have depth in the squad. Granted, a big squad is needed. But what is more important is a squad packed with quality.

AlexMFC I think you completely missed my point, and mike I agree but you need to test them to see if they are good enough dont you? you hit the nail on the head, however what is the alternative we buy in more players… but with have no cash!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been harping on this subject for ages accused of being a parent and a step parent, I support BigTW in his comments on this subject, the facts are we have no money? Then lets ensure we keep the best of the fringe on less money for f… sake it simple economics.

Lets say we replace Hockton with an established front man, who is behind any of the front men to step in if required???

Same at centre back and so on and so on if you cannot buy depth you need to develop depth if you intend to develop depth then you must have a system to secure it at budget stage.

What I am saying is at the moment we have a few good players around that need to be secured no more no less.

But am I not right in saying that we actually do not know who Trotty has or has not lined up for us?

News has been scarce, but that does not mean there is nothing going on.

I would rather let the manager manage, discuss whatever he does when we know what it is, and judge him on the results he gets with his set up.

I feel it is very unfair that he is being judged on what people THINK is the situation.

And he would be a pretty stupid man if he had not taken into consideration all the things we have been discussing. And I do not think for a minute that is the case.

IMO none of the reserves should be put on a contract. Having seen them play week in week out, i can honestly say none of them have done enough to earn a contract. TQA you speak of the barron pratt partnership, yeah great scored a lot of goals against kent league divison 2 teams which lets face it, the standard is not that far up on sunday league.

For reserve team players to prove themselves they must go out and get first team experience elsewhere.

I understand the frustration of buying in players when we are raving about our reserves - i too believe that promising talent shoudl be protected but none of them are ready for the step up of 4 leagues.

The release of whisker is a shame as i believe he would add something. However look at the likes of dan allen, scott holden who went up form the reserves they looked like fish out of water completely and i know people will say they werent given a chance but you could see watching them at reserve team level they werent ready a few good performances and they were promoted to the first team.

And why is money coming into this for reserve team players, why do they have to be contracted for them to stay at the club if they want to play then why are they so concerned about money. I believe if RT and MW strongly believe that some of the reserves are good enough then they should be put on pay per play contracts. As lets face it theyre not going to get many games so £200 quid should cover the wage bil of them for the season.

sadly we can't go and do this ourselves unless the club offer our services to another club under some form of contract otherwise whats to stop us signing for the other club leaving our reserves team slightly less filled.

however I also do agree that we shouldnt be paid to play unless Margate got themselves promoted about 2 or 3 divisions higher

Well i dont think there will be much change to the reserves apart from some under 18s comming in.

Faversham have contacted a couple of reserve players and i know one or two that are going preseason with them. imo i think they would rather drop down a league or two and play 1st team football than stay in the reserves for margate hoping to get a chance at the 1st team.

i think looking at whiskers situation last season i dont see how many youngsters would want to stay at margate and sit on the bench for the whole season, when they could play more football at lower leagues!!

Do not agree, you make a valid point but if you cannot buy in then without any option you play them in the first team when you can.
