East Thurrock United 4 Hornchurch 3

What an amazing game. A poor first half performance saw us 4-1 down at half time - and it could have been more - and was followed by a much improved 2nd half, but it was always going to be an uphill task.

Like the previous Saturday we fell behind to an early goal, Billy Cove scoring after 4 minutes. Two minutes later thought we were level, Andrew Martin heading in from a Danny Benstock free kick. That didn't last long either as, two minutes later, Keith Martin struck a low shot into the far corner for the home side. A penalty converted by Billy Cove in the 23rd minute made it 3-1 and Thurrock scored once more before half time, Danny Dafter doing the honours on that occasion.

Nick McDonald and Barrie Fox came on at half time for Gary Kimble and Steve Carter and it was a much more spirited second half, but the early goal we desperately needed didn't come. That a goal was inevitable after all our dominance in the second period was without doubt, but it only came with 12 minutes to go, Andrew Martin finishing off a Steve Jones effort at the far post. Jones made it 4-3 from a header with 5 minutes to go and it was all hands to the pump for Thurrock, but they managed to hold out until the end.

Line-up:- Wood, Carter (McDonald 45), Kimble (Fox 45), Gooding, Jopson, Southon, Locke, Martin, Jones, Cripps (Stowe 66), Benstock. Subs not used:-Dyson, Kharine.

Thanks Rob...as usual..pretty accurate assesment of the whole set-to...we were poor tonight in the first half...no excuses there...could have won it actually in the second half but one last chance saloon to many tonight.....but no complaints ....we've played 4-4-2 before and won....just a bad night for 30 minutes and tonight we didn't get away with it....anyway....still in second place and still a long way to go...look at the positives...we scored 3 goals...and better still....we didn't get a draw....!!!

On a more serious note....many... many thanks to the Officials and fans of East Thurrock for their understanding and respect for Geoff Davis during the one minutes silence...that will not be forgotten...thank you all....he was a special little fellow and if we all contribute half as much as he did to non-league footie......well...we'll get to join him one day on the big pitch upstairs....

hopefully the website wind ups can be left for tonight and...as Geoff would have wanted....resumed in the morning...the old so and so was not adverse to getting on here himself.....sorry Geoff that we weren't able to dig out a win for you tonight mate....but....rest easy...we'll look after your club for you.....God bless.....
