Tonight's match off

Just found out toight's match has been called off. Apparently match was called off at 7.30pm as the supporters coach were quite near to the ground.

Glad I did not make the trip. Maidenhead is also off tonight, so if the weather is like this next week don't put money on the game going ahead.

I took the afternoon off work to go to the match, having forseen the supporters coach would get caught in traffic, though the chemical spill on the motorway surely didn't help much.

Despite the fact that Wivenhoe's car park had more craters than the moon I thought they had quite a nice set up, a nice little clubhouse and friendly staff which is always good. The ref made it to the ground about 6:30, like I did, so the fact that he didn't make an inspection until half seven is ridiculous. The game was called off at 7:35 much to my disliking and Ryan Spencer who had made it to the ground on his own had a similar look of disbelief on his face.

The pitch was playable, the referee said as much himself, but he was concerned that later in the evening it would not be. Given that the players did not arrive until 7:40 the ref was making his decision on the basis of a late kick off, and so you could argue he was right to postpone the game. It was a bad time to make the call though.

I don't blame Wivenhoe in any way. Just like in Slough the weather had not been warm, but was glorious sunshine and really there could not have been any doubt about the game earlier in the day. I must say that I don't think it was that cold last night. When I left the ground (about 8:15) my car had been stationary in the car park for the best part of two hours, but it had not frosted up and didn't even steam up when I got in the car.

Anyway, not much point in grumbling about it, these things happen, but they really shouldn't. I recommend the clubhouse, friendly barman. They even gave me back my golden goal money which I hadn't even thought about before hand.

Oh well, these things are there to test us. One of the Wivenhoe guys told me there had been three failed attempts to play their match away to Hemel Hempstead which is a bit of a trek, lets hope it doesn't take so many for us.
