Enfield Council, Football & Southbury Road!

Recommended Posts

Enfield Council we're doing their bit to encourage young local footballers to follow their dreams at Southbury Road last week:

FOOTBALL ICON

I bet the council kept schtum about how the Southbury Leisure Centre came to be in existence! Wouldn't it have been better to do the Football Icon trials at Goldsdown Road? It would have been a great way creating an awareness of Enfield Town Football Club amongst the young football players in our borough.

Why not phone the sports development officer involved and ask to be part of the scheme in the future? How about contacting members of the local football partnership and putting a case forward?

Charlton are the biggest culprits for this kind of agressive marketing. The club sends out free coaches out to Gillingham and Gravesend & NF (Ebsfleet) to tempt new supporters to the Valley.

At least Chelsea is a Middlesex County Club! Is Tottenham?

Incorrect!

Chelsea, is not and never has been in the county of Middlesex unlike Tottenham. Prior to the formation of Greater London in 1965, Chelsea was in the County of London which bordered Middlesex to the north and west and Surrey to the south.

Sorry DOY, but you are not correct. The ancient map of Middlesex (dating from sometime in the 1700's) that hangs on a wall in my house clearly includes villages such as Fulham and Chelsea in the county (plus, would include the areas now known as Upton Park and Highbury, so that will hopefully annoy an even greater audience!!!)

Chelsea FC were not formed as a club until 1905 when the club was positioned in the County of London. It stayed in this county until it became the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea as part of Greater London in 1965.

On the basis of your argument you could say that Chelsea is Danish team or go back further and you could say it is an Italian team!

Deniz Ombesh – Enfield Sports Development Team Football Community Sports Coach, added, “Our football programme is currently being supported by Football Icon. By implementing the Football Icon skills test within our football programmes it gives children an opportunity to develop. The children that took part in the skills day really enjoyed it.”

The event was organised by Enfield Sports Development Team & Football Icons (as previously seen on Sky One).

For more information regarding football development programmes please contact Deniz at deniz.ombesh@enfield.gov.uk or telephone 020 8379 3213.
