My Wife Has Just Spotted

Recommended Posts

....the Sunday ritual of the household here is that after I get the papers I then make brekkie and my wife, then reads the papers, whilst the coffee, toast, bacon or whatever is being perpared...

My wife's preferred reading material is the Non League Paper (yes, you would think that I would get first "snip" at that but no...Mr's Clark gets the first look, whilst I study the Sunday Telegraph). Today, her eagle eyes have spotted (for those of you that are not married, Wives do indeed have eagle eyes...and cunning plans which they divulge until the execute them)...anyway, I digress...

...My Wife's eagle eyes have spotted that in next weeks NLP, there will be an article called Great Teams Of The Past and the team they have chosen is Billericay...

...perhaps, I may be able to get first "dabs" of the paper...but I doubt it.

Of course, all we now need the NLP to do is recognise that we have a great team for the future.

Great team for the future???

Don't be daft - I thought that in the Ryman's League it was only Chelmo who were legally entitled to such accoclades as having a "great team for the future". That's what they keep suggesting on here anyway.

Hi Clydefan - As someone who resides in your beautiful country,(even though I'm a Sassenach), could you please indicate exactly where we Clarets have suggested on here that we are a "great team for the future".
But having said that, it doesn't seem a bad idea to think that, does it? - I mean, if we, together with your goodselves (both Clyde and Ricay), are not of that opinion with regard to our clubs, then it doesn't hold out a lot of hope for the future does it.

BC - I was actually referring to a number of posts made on this board recently whereby the general opinion was that you simply had to turn up to win the league. It was on this board but perhaps the comments were not made by your fans (I'm guessing your fans were perhaps boasting on your own board and others simply reported it back here - if you catch my drift.)

And yeah it might not seem a bad idea to think along the lines of having a great team of the future - but whilst I can't comment much on down south, up here I'm very much a realist and sadly the words 'great team of the future' and 'Clyde' are unlikely to be heard in the same sentence again anytime soon. (but I enjoyed that thought whilst it lasted).

Indeed - not Airdrie, but Oldmeldrum in Aberdeenshire after spells at Drumoak (13 years) and Tarland (9 years), all in close proximity to Royal Deeside. Some of the best scenery in the UK, and wouldn't move back down south for anything. If only you Scots would get that plank off your shoulders with regard to the England football team, it would be a complete Utopia up here!

Been to Aberdeen itself a good few times but not familiar with the places you mentioned. And actually England has just as nice if not nicer scenery than Scotland. Sadly people tend to think of the bigger cities but there is truly wonderful scenery in England too. (give me a holiday in the lake district any day of the week!).

And Scots in general dont just have a chip on their shoulder - they have the entire McCains factory. But in fairness the large majority love the country and the people - as you say its the national team we love to hate. (we all wanted Liverpool to win the champions league for example - we just hate the national side). Specifically the commentators in actual fact. They are unbelieveably arrogant and truly believe they have a divine right to win everything. I remember Ian Wright being asked for analysis on a dutch game during the world - he replied with words to the effect of 'I dont care about the dutch, I only care about England'. This was after a DUTCH game had just been on tv. He is so unprofessional - no actually he's just a complete [****!!****]! And there are many more commentators/analysts like him. I'm afraid 90% of Scotland will always cheer for whoever plays against England - and the other 10% are liars.

Spot on Colin - but nothing wrong with a bit of "friendly" rivalry I suppose.

Not a great supporter of the England national team myself - but was at Wembley in 19** to witness their only major achievement (I know you Scots don't like to hear that date mentioned, so just insert the relative numbers).

Also not so sure about the SPL - went along to Pittodrie a couple of times soon after moving up here (Aberdeen's championship year), but the place is a morgue. You could always tell when the Dons had worked the ball into the six yard box, because the supporters (who are apparently termed sheep- sh***ers by rival clubs), would start mumbling to each other.

Have a bit of interest in the Highland League, and might pop along to watch Inverurie Locos a few times next season.

Apologies to you Ricay guys for temporarily highjacking your forum.

I always look out for the Highland scores too - ironically Locos is the first score I look for. Hoping to pass my driving licence this year and if so will head up and see them one weekend when Clyde are away.

They made a really good signing yesterday - Scott Michie. Was a striker who was never got a chance at Aberdeen, so he left for Montrose. Scored some goals there but obviously things haven't worked out. Here's hoping their loss is Locos gain.

If you ever venture into my neck of the woods, please contact me and we could perhaps enjoy a bevy or two in one of Inverurie's many pleasant hostelries. One condition - Ricay and Chelmo would need to be forbidden conversation pieces!
