ANNOUNCEMENT OF NEW SPONSOR

Recommended Posts

I know for a fact they were approached a long time ago, with a response of 'not yet but maybe in the future' received.

I know this because it was myself who made the enquiry, at the same time as approaching southeastern.

I had nothing to do with the newly announced deal though.

Well when the proposed airport is built at Cliffe we could move to the other side of Gravesend, Call ourselves Cliffefleet United and get an...... airline..... to...... sponsor...... us........oh.....

It is great news, albeit about a week after everyone else seemed to know. One point, though, if our playing budget is only going to be marginally increased, and the bare minimum is spent on the ground to keep it safe and legal (until the new build), what do the club propose to do with the extra money?

As was pointed out, a little more flesh on the bones and an idea of how the money raised from the new deal will be used would be helpful.

If there isn't going to be a massive influx of cash from the sponsorship, everyone should be happy. We all know what happened to other clubs that went down that path, without improving their gates!

As we don't know the figures, all we can assume is, it was still a better deal than Austrian Airways were prepared to match!

Am i right in thinking that this season our full time status, but relatively poor gates has meant the directors have had to put their hands in their pockets more than once?If thats so i'm guessing the extra money will be used to keep us more stable and less reliant on the generosity of the board?

What I meant was if we aren't sponsored by Eurostar(which I think is great for the club), would new sponsors(as you say DA11), want the name changed again?

In all seriousness. If this partnership is successful and this regeneration of the area starts to show then there is no reason why at the end of this contract it cant be renewed. At the end of the day Ebbsfleet/Eurostar Eurostar/Ebbsfleet is just a perfect combo. One thing is for sure the board will have to work double smart to better this coup.

Good point Stu. Over the years the Board have kept pouring money in to keep the club afloat!

If I can borrow a saying from Nascar Racing: "How do you make a small fortune out of(non league) Football...........Start off with a large fortune!"

I only know one board memeber personally............And he is red and white, through and through.

I suspect that you are exactly right Stu, and probably not just this season either.

I should think that what this deal actually gives us is the chance to plan for the next three seasons with the confidence that we will be able to meet the bills.

A lucrative cup run would still be nice though.

I only hope the trust, that seems to have been placed in the hope of the people who move into the new Ebbsfleet developement, are going to become Fleet fans, is right!

My point exactly.
The club hass to be able to stand on it's own two feet and be self sufficient.
Sponsorship ought not be about helping to balance the books, but enabling the club to move forward.
Cup runs, better gates and play offs are number 1 on next years agenda.

I don't think the people who move to area will be Fleet Fans. Just because you move to Gravesham doesn't mean you are automatically going to support the local club. It never happened as GNFC so why should it happen now. What you will get is a club with a new profile, stadium which IMHO will attract the locals back. we always seem to want to blame something that keeps people away beit the swearing (utter crap), smoking(ZZZZZZZZZ), Plough End singing ( shoot em for creating an atmosphere), The truth is if the board do not take this opportunity by the horns, employ a proper marketing manager, take the club to the masses and do a massive PR operation then we will be in the same boat and someone will need to be shot.

While I have no reason to believe otherwise, it would be a naive chairman who advertised the fact his manager had loads of dosh to spend. He'd be up to his ears in agents/parasites in a second.

I think most of us are canny enough to realise this deal gives as many of us have already said, a bedrock to move the club forward over the next few years, I believe the board have done well for the club not just for this deal but over the last few years, we're certainly not the same club we were 10 years ago and I have confidence that the board will continue to do well for us (just wish they weren't quite so secretive at times, but that's business!). Many thanks guys. See you all next season as we challenge for the league!

Well as always I need to stick my two pennyworths in. Surely this is a big step forward for the club is securing a sponership agreement with a new business entering the area and tying it up with the name change, hopefully it wil give the club the foundation to move forward after the great effort last season. Most of the squad have been retained and no doubt Liam Daish is working hard to get some more players in. Hopefully some optismism will abound and let's look forward to the 2007/08 season.

:-)

A valid point. As Bloodnock alluded to above, though, for those who've missed it...

From the outline details given, everyone associated with the Club should be genuinely pleased with this new sponsorship. There is a reasonably good sized article about it in today's NLP - much bigger than the blink and you will miss it piece when the name change was announced.

As always the devil is in the detail (as the saying goes) and the figures involved will no doubt be kept a secret. The business reasons for this should be perfectly understandable. The NLP calls the 3 year deal "one of the biggest sponsorship deals in Non-League history". However, on Friday, a well-placed outside source associated with the Club stated privately that it was in fact the biggest deal in non-league football and larger than some in the Football League. Whether he was correct or had just got a little carried away I will probably never know.
