Firstly apologies to Harry J for not using the "quote" facility !!

Secondly, rather mischieviously, await CG's response to accusation of talking boll*cks ! biglaugh

Thirdly, am now off to be executed at the Tower of London as I wasn't one of the 7,000 that went to the Villa game ! I must be a fickle fan !

Cheers,

I am still struggling to see how the name change is a good thing. If the name change is tied in with any sponsorship deal then that is wrong because if that is the case the name of the club could chamge every 2 or 3 years. Changing your name for sponsorship money is a bad road to go down,

If, on the other hand the name change is just seen as a way of getting more people through the turnstile I really dont think it is going to happen, in fact it could just drive away some of the limited support the club already has. The only way to increas attendance is to promote the club better then they do at the moment. I know i am not the first person to say this on this forum and I sure I wont be the last but the clubs current marketing strategies are very unprofessional, almost non-existant

Changing the name wont help, better marketing will!!

Thanks

From an outsiders point of view, at first i thought gawd not another bleedin name change! However, on consideration your whole 'area' is going to be known as Ebbsfleet to the outside world. Big things are happening. G&N will become obsolete and along with it your club if you don't 'move with the times'. Ebbsfleet will be known Europe wide. So, commercially it is a good move. Go with the flow smile

IF it is. And as I recall, though I may well be wrong, I'm pretty sure at the meeting the club said the name change was not tied in with any sponsorship deal. Plus, the logic and timing of things would seem to suggest this is not the case. If the name change was dependent on sponsorship, then why would the club announce the name change on May 1st, without having tied up the sponsorship deal, which wasn't complete until June...? The two would surely have had to be announced hand-in hand?

The extent and application of a marketing strategy is a fair point, but one that only goes so far. Let's face it, our fanbase is small as this league goes, regardless of the amount of marketing we do. SO to keep at this level and/or to push on from here, we need to find other investment. That either comes from the directors themselves, or from other outside opportunities. Now the directors are hardly going to fund it year after year, and the attendances alone aren't going to fund it - even with a more successful marketing plan - so if those making the business decisions think the EUFC name will increase investment, then that's the risk they're taking. But I know I'd far rather my club took these kind of positive unpopular steps for success, rather than the overfunding/administration route so many other clubs have taken.

I don't know if it will work, it may not... but I'm sure this hasn't been done at the drop of a hat without some business research being done. In my opinion, this club would have to cut costs or see itself relegated if it relied on its present income stream for another couple of years, so like or loathe the name change, at least it's a positive step - which is more than a lot of clubs our size can attempt.

Basically, it all boils down to where the club was heading with what we currently had. What I mean is, change it needed to bring in the bigger sponsors, none of these petty one year deals, to bring in the bigger sums of money, which can help us reach the football league and have our income from sponsors etc. increased by 600%. What is the point, if the club goes nowhere financially, we don't want to end up like Woking, gawd knows how long they've been in step 5 of football.

Overall, the club need to try different methods to push the club in the right direction, it is worth trying!
