The 'Up's and Downs' of the close season

Guess it never changes whatever club you support.

You always disagree with the retained list and then unrealistically expect the Manager to sign 20 new players !!

Is'nt it fun.

Having said that, you often get a bit of an early feel as to how the forthcoming season may pan out;and whilst by no means gloomy, my expectations have fallen a bit over the last 3 weeks.

i think at end of the season, i thought 4th place for the 'Gate looked pretty secure for next season.

Having seen whose leaving, and although possibly early days, no signings yet, plus possible reserve squad exodus, and what may be happening at other Ryman clubs; if i had to predict our season now, i think i'd put us back to about 11th.

Plenty of time through good signings and /or good coaching for hopes and expectations to rise again though.

Anyone else have early thoughts before the all important/all encompassing official 'Cookie Prediction league' comes out ?(we hope)

I think your about right 9th to about 11th. I think we will have a fair start over first 5-8 games then a couple of our older players will get injured and suspended going into Xmas we will drop back Trotty will get fired. Weatherely will become first team Manager and try to get back some of the Youngsters who left this summer and manage to keep us up in the Rymans.

IMO

I think this season will be a down season

Whilst Ramsgate and Dover are making all the right noises,Margate have just given us the retained list and let us know Danny will be leaving

So I am going for 12th, with Ramsgate ending above us, this would be sh1te. No 5 a sides pitches being built and overall a crap season

Now lets hope that MFC can prove me wrong and name a few good signings and do the business, but I really don't think so

And thats me being positive

Just having a bit of fun CE.

The emotions change as the close season progresses.

!2 months ago we were sitting very pretty with virtually all the squad assembled;but even then, in early June we had the 'drama's' involvig Hasim Deen,Brayley and to a lesser extent Sesay and Yiga.

I'm still upbeat - look at how well Boreham Wood did last season - they were expected to go back down with the squad they had. I'm sure as the summer unfolds that we will make some good signings and I'm sure Pat Sapp will re-sign.

The only things I'm not looking forward to is having to play AFC and Ramsgate again next season...

Borehamwood got to the trophy semi final the year before,so they obviously had some preety good players.
I reckon Hornchurch will be a strong team next season. Last season people on here were saying that the promoted clubs would struggle. But the difference between the top of rymans 1 and premier teams is not quite as big as some imagine.

Agree with MM here. Look at Braintree: won the Ryman, and then got to the playoffs in the Conference South (not entirely sure how they did?). In addition, Fisher had a comfortable season. Clearly, there is little difference between the Ryman Prem and the Conf. South (or the Blue Square Southern, or whatever it's called!)

I see we're talking about finishing 11th. or 12th. on this thread. Is this really the best we're hoping for? What the hell has happened to our club? Last seasons failure coming home to roost?

This Yianni rumour hasn't done anything to raise my confidence.

I'll go for a finish of 14th. with a new low profile manager in by December and before any of you have a pop, yes! I am feeling bloody negative.

I don't think anyone can even begin to speculate about our new season without any news of any signings coming through.

But it is vary frustrating to hear news of other clubs all around the league, and hear nothing from our camp.

Hate the close season with a vengeance.

Agree entirely, specially with the last line.
