Have a read of this week's Review. There's a lengthy article summarising season. It makes pretty depressing reading. Only about five percent of it is positive. But I guess when you finish ten points adrift at the bottom it's about right.

The article was by David Tavener and was a personal view.

The two photos of Batt & Bastock did not even have them in City kit. The sports coverage was less than what the Review & Observer used to put out individually and very poor.

Also a section of news for local fans of Watford, Luton, the north London clubs, Fulham, West Ham and even Crystal Palace. Man Utd not included for some reason.

On the inside was a repeat of the Oaklands storey of last week, the only difference I could see was that there was an invitation to go to their website and vote as to whether or not you wanted City to have a new ground (at Oaklands?).

P25 of the paper. Have looked again and I had it wrong, it is not a vote but an invitation to "Tell us what you think" on the Review website. It then asks the question "Should a new stadium for St Albans City FC be built as part of the redevelopment of the Smallford Campus?"

I read David Taverner's page in the Review last night.

Out of curiousity, did you think that was a 'half-empty' or 'half-full' view of the past season, Wilf?

[Like you, I was fascinated to read the summary of the prospects for the local fans of the likes of Fulham and Palace. Perhaps they will do Southend United next week. ;0)]

The article told me that "This was a season that, depending on one's viewpoint, was either a wonderful adventure or a succession of,at best squandered opportunities." One would have to have a full or an empty glass with those viewpoints.

I noticed no mention of the win against York, even amongst the list of league sides defeated, which for me was the best win of the season, nor the fine but losing performance at Oxford and home to D&R when one of our best goals was scored. I get the impression David is not a fan of Archer. To balance that no mention of the three cup defeats and missing out on Forest

I have not, of course, seen the original article and it may be that it has been edited in a way to encourage readers of our local paper to start following the exploits of our new local club's, Palace & Fulham who now share pages with City.

I get the impression that I enjoyed last season more than some others but I happen to enjoy watching City.

That's a fair summary, Wilf.

As far as the omissions are concerned, I suspect that David may have written more but that some was left on the cutting-room floor or whatever is the newspaper equivalent.

The home game against the Daggers was a cracker for me. Deen's first game wide on the left of midfield and the first start for Lopez. And an astonishing work-rate throughout the side. What might have been.

There was also an error in the report. The commercial manager was part-time basis and not full-time!
