SSML Division 2

Shyboy - I haven't said that Cockfosters aren't going up, I've simply said that I don't think they will.

as im lead to believe reading the posts on here that league officials have told cockfosters that there ground has been approved to play in the premiere i wonder who has told you any differently? if no-one has told you where does your gut feeling come from?

It obviously does not take much to put a team sheet together, but it would be nice to produce a programme for every home match. We did produce a programme for our Herts Junior Cup matches last season and they proved a success so we will see.

Hopefully you will then, certainly I know when I go to a match I like to pick a programme up.

As for Rhodes and Cockfosters, I believe that he feels that their ground isn't up to standard for the Premier Division. I've never been there so can't comment but I'm sure that if it wasn't up to scratch then they wouldn't have been in the provisional Premier Division. Though it is my understanding that the criteria may chance next season.

Shyboy - Well it's obvious you are one of the Chalk Lane faithful and are biting your finger nails down to the quick as otherwise it wouldn't bother you in the slightest. It doesn't matter where I got my information from or whether it is a gut feeling or not, we will soon see whether I'm right, if I'm wrong then I'll gladly hold my hands up and wish Cockfosters all the best for next season in the Premier Division.

That's a shame - I hope that they kept the league informed of what was going on. It's a tragedy that the town boasts a ground that only recently hosted Southern League Premier football, but they aren't able to play on it.

I scored one of my better goals on that ground!! Knocked Baldock out of the Herts Senior Cup in '98 (I think)...

PS BOOBIES!

I saw that Baldock were in the proposed HSCL constitution for next season. I had assumed that it was just a back up in case they failed to get into the SSML. I suppose they just took the first place that came along as both Leagues are at the same level anyway. In fact, probably less travelling in the Herts County.

Not quite so - the ground they use at present is acceptable to the Herts County League, but not to the SSMFL. I imagine they will be in Div 1 of the Herts County League

It is to me.

Why's that then, it looks as if, reading between the lines, they were looking after number one and just covering their backs.

I care because I was secretary/director of the original club between 1984 and 1993, before I moved to live in Hertford. They are starting from literally nothing and play on a school playing field.

Why are you so scathing of these "new" clubs, like Baldock Town and Sport London e Benfica, when your own club is no different?

I know according to your friend Rhodes that due to us entering the Herts Senior County League I will be not permitted to post on this forum, but I couldn't help but react to his comments as above!

The SSML was in fact our preferred choice on the playing side, but they would only accept us in Division 2 if we played at Stotfold Road in Letchworth. To get that venue up to scratch would have cost a fortune, which we were quite prepared to do until we received an offer last week from the County League. The County League liked our current venue (in Baldock Rhodes!!) meaning we can still play where we hail from. It is unfortunate we will be unable to move into the SSML next season, but watch out for us in the future because we have a good setup and plans for a ground (in Baldock Rhodes!!) meaning we can be proud to call ourselves Baldock Town playing in Baldock unlike your own club.

It does amuse me to read some of your posts, but it is unnecessary to comment on our club being no great loss when you haven't seen us play and don't know anything about us!!

I just hope they get a real shoeing by Sport London e Benfica next season!! Fair play to them for making the step up.

The County League poses a good challenge for our young side and we are hoping to make a big impact.

We have arranged friendlies against opposition in higher leagues and this will hopefully show us what sort of level we are at.

Baldock Town - I don't have anything against you personally as you sound like a decent bloke who knows his stuff but it's just the way you went about things that got up my nose slightly. You kept it quiet from us that you had applied for both the SSML and Herts Senior County League and we had to hear it from Horace that you had been accepted into the latter, you were therefore just looking after number one and covering your backs, if the better quality SSML was your preferred choice on the playing side then why didn't you put all your eggs in one basket.
