SSML Division 2

Recommended Posts

When is the proposed line up's for all the divisions going to be ratified, presumably at the upcoming AGM?

I see that there is no Flamstead or MK Scot, did either apply after pulling out last season? I also notice the absence of Loughton Orient which I'm surprised at.

Baldock Town are newcomers, a resurection of the old SML team which folded a few years ago as a Southern League Club? I wonder if they will be playing at Norton Road, as they are in Division 2 it would suggest not (though I have no idea what state the old ground is in now, or if it is still standing!)

Having a look at the Reserve Div 2 East I see Kentish Town are in our league so we may not finish bottom after all whistle

Baldock Town have a number of ex Langford players in the side as well as on the management team. Roy Ryall was the Manager in charge when we were promoted to the Premier and is now pert of their set up, he is a great guy, and the players such as Barry Lawrence, Lee Buck, Ben Lowden, Mark Nunn, Lee and Richard Harmon and Jason kitchener all were the backbone of that Langford side. i would like to wish them all the luck for the coming Season. With regard to the ground at Baldock, there is a lot of building work going on, but I don't know if this is to do with Town playing there.

Thanks for the information MIKO, I remember that Langford team as I had just started to do The 61 FC programme at the time and they were quite handy from what I recall so it sounds like Baldock could do reasonably well next season.

As for the ground according to their website they play at Knights Templar Sports Centre in Weston Way so I would presume not which is a shame.

There is a ground next to the Two Chimneys Pub on the Stotfold Road, may be this is there home ground, if so, great news, as it is within walking distance to get there and within crawling distance to get back home for me

Yes - all the clubs will vote on it then.
The probables are on TK's site. For those who haven't seen the lists, reserve division two has been split east/west with 13 and 12 teams respectively. Res div one is down to 14 teams from 18 last year - Cheshunt have moved to Div One, New Bradwell & Sun Postal are relegated to RD2, Holmer Green & Stony Stratford have opted to move to the regional RD2W, and Welwyn Garden seem to have disappeared. London Colney & Cockfosters were promoted.

WGC and Brimsdown have both withdrawn their reserve sides

Thank you very much for the comments about the Baldock Town website!!

With regard to our entrance to the South Midlands League, ss long as we can get the work done on our new venue done before the deadline we will be taking our place in the SSML Div 2 next season.

For those who don't know us we formed as Baldock FC in 2003 when the old club went tits up. We are not run by anyone involved with the old one. We became Baldock Town at the beginning of the season just gone.

The first team is managed by Steve King and Barry Laurence who have both played a decent level of local football. The backbone of the side is made up of the experienced heads, the ones already mentioned earlier in the thread, but we have some exciting youngsters who have helped the club become a force on a local scale in Herts.

Despite only finishing runners-up in the Premier Division this season, we reached the Final of the Herts Junior Cup losing 5-4 after extra time to Kings Sports in front of a crowd of 576. We also got to our Divisional Cup Final and once again lost, but the future for our club is bright and we look forward to the challenge the South Midlands League will bring.

If anyone fancies playing us in pre-season at your venue then please mail us at info@baldocktownfc.co.uk.

Do you have any ties with Baldock Cannon who play in the Herts and District League?

No we don't.

When Baldock Town folded in 2001, Baldock Cannon originally took on the reigns of being the club to replace the old one, but after originally agreeing to be run in conjunction with the youth setup they decided to go their own separate ways after one season, hence the formation of Baldock in 2003.

The manager of Baldock Cannon, Barry Rainbow did come up through the Youth setup at Baldock Town so there are ties in that sense, but none with our club.

Friends of mine played against them last year and they were a pretty useful young side (at least playing up against a load of old bastards anyway!)

What against Baldock Cannon or us??

Cannon are strong but don't possess a lot of quality. We possess a lot of quality and try to play the game the right way, but having watched Arsenal this season, football that is good on the eye doesn't necessarily win you anything!

Personally, but you may think my view is slightly biassed but I would say we are a better side than they are.

We have four 17 yr olds in our squad and they are all pretty much regulars in the first team, one of which is outstanding and we will struggle to hold on to.

Welcome to the board Baldock Town, and indeed the SSML. Do you know if you will be issuing a programme for next season, you haven't got to in Division Two but I would prefer every team to do so, even if it is just a team sheet.

Thanks for the info NewBradwell, I wonder why they decided to make that move, perhaps they felt they had a better chance of success? I really don't know how strong that league is to be honest but it will be interesting to see how they fair, good luck to them anyway.

How many clubs have to vote in favour for the proposals so that they are ratified? Could Kentish Town vote against Cockfosters being promoted? (I only ask as Rhodes seems to think that Cockfosters wont go up), or is it a majority vote?

The constitution gets voted on as a whole mostly not on the placings of indvidual teams. Why would teams try to stop cockfosters getting promoted ? they finished in a Promotion place and have had their ground approved for the step up.

I cannot say for definite whether we will be issuing a programme, but it is something that has been talked about.

It obviously does not take much to put a team sheet together, but it would be nice to produce a programme for every home match. We did produce a programme for our Herts Junior Cup matches last season and they proved a success so we will see.
