Theboss - Why away friendlies, we (Kentish Town) will gladly come to the Old Spotted Dog to play and we'll pay for the officials, can't say fairer than that and I can even produce a programme although it may not quite stretch to our usual 84 pages.

Well that's exactly my point, everybody will be in the same boat, and particularly one Club that I can think of, no names mentioned. I am just trying to give Clapton an incentive to play us at the Old Spotted Dog, possibly on the Saturday before the season officially starts, and if the game is publicised properly there could be a gate of three or four hundred if we let it slip that 'the great one' will be present.

Paula - I did say if the game was publicised properly, such as in the local press, but more importantly if we let it slip that 'the great one' will be there, there is a large African Community in the Clapton area who will fall over themselves to come and see him for photograph and autograph opportunities.

The Old Spotted Dog Ground is at Forest Gate, and virtually the whole surrounding population appears to be Asian. They seem to have NO interest in football, particularly that served up by Clapton. The chances of getting more than 10 spectators for an August friendly with Kentish Town are virtually nil. And you have, of course, entirely missed the point that Clapton don't want to play at home - they want to play AWAY, just like you.

Horace - Not at all, I'm trying to persuade Clapton to play at the Old Spotted Dog and they can also keep the gate proceeds which, on an attendance of say 300, would be considerable. As you know people still rave to this day about the two pre-season friendlies we had this season at Ruislip Manor on 3 August and Hertford Town on 15 August, dates still etched in my memory and in particular all those who attended the latter for the goal of the season by Baron 'the Baron' Charlery.

Woodsy - if you do happen to revisit this thread, ignore comments such as these from Rhodes. He is a complete idiot who lives in cloud cuckoo land (or, as we refer to it on this forum, a planet called RhodesWorld). I'll fill you in over a pint next time we meet. I'm not at Potters Bar now so should get down to one or two Clapton matches next season. See you soon.

The attendance for the friendly at the Manor was precisely four (me, Lato, The Saint & clip rods), and only one of the four (guess which) has been known to rave.

 

For the record we fielded a team of reserves and trialists and it was played on the back pitch with our first team training alongside.

No they DON'T. You are the only person on the entire planet who ever refers back to these games! If I were you, I'd stop mentioning them - team turning up 10 minutes before kick off time, and wearing shirts without numbers - complete rabble.
