Almost as bad as Life on Mars missing out on the panel's award last night. Isn,t Ken Dodd dead or was that his dog?

here's what i sent via http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/ContactUs/

cheers to daggsy for easy to quote stats...

will post their lame excuse for a reply as & when...

Dear Sir / Madam

I am well aware of and applaud the efforts of the FA to create a 'team of the fa cup' by awarding a player of the round for each round. This demonstrates the FA's commitment to grassroots football and especially in the early stages is also a great incentive for players as the player of the round is invited to the FA cup final.

What has disappointed me during this year’s campaign is the FA's refusal to acknowledge Mark Janney of AFC Hornchurch as the top goalscorer in the world's most prestigious cup competition. This, I feel counters your much vaunted stance to support grassroots football, I also feel that if Mark played league football, then his feats in the FA cup would have been recognised, especially if he played premiership football.

By ignoring the fact that Mark scored 8 goals in 5 FA cup matches, (next highest are wayne rooney and frank lampard with 6 each in 6 matches), I feel that the FA has missed out on a great PR opportunity to reach out to both league and non-league fans everywhere and raise the profile of the non-league game and it’s involvement in the FA cup by failing to reward or even acknowledge this feat.

Isn't this what the ‘magic’ of the FA Cup is, or should be all about?

They did have a player of the round, from the earliest qualifying rounds, and these are detailed in the Cup Final programme, don't know whether these individuals were invited to the cup final though.

I don't think any-one is disputing the fact that he was the top goalscorer in the competition.

What isn't confirmed is whether there is an annual award for the top goalscorer, if there is and Janney's been snubbed then that is "fckn outrageous", if there isn't such an award then there bloody well should be.

Spuddy, i thought the same earlier. But, what stuck in my mind more than anything is that a Non League player, whether he plays for Hx or any other team, should be overlooked for Premier League players who don't put the committment and heart into their game, and get the accolade is wrong. So, thanks to Unc for highlighting it. And all the best to Janney for recieving this accolade.

If you can't celebrate these achievements and have the support of the Non League behind you, when can you? Sod the Prem, get what is deserved brille008

Would he still be counted as top goalscorer though?Because lampard and rooney both scored 6 in the actual rounds and mark only scored in the Qualifiers not in actual rounds so would he actually get it because it is the Qualifiers? Because this would mean they get about 3-4 matches more to score goals just in the qualifiers so wouldnt it start from Round 1 not qualifiers?

Yes, of course he would - if you take the argument to its illogical conclusion, you would also have to exclude scorers in rounds one and two, because the 'big' clubs do not come in until round three.

The FA Cup starts at the preliminary round(s), not just when the big names come in.

Whichever way you look at it, Mark is the top scorer in the competition.
