Hayes and Yeading FC???

So everyone would be happy with both teams to continue to slip lower and lower down the leagues, with Slough remaining homeless and Windsor not having the finances to grow.

In the end both teams will slide into extiction and no one wins.

Hang on, why would Windsor & Eton "slide into extinction"? They're a small club with a small fanbase and they know that. They've known that for decades and seem to have done alright.

Woody's right, what would Slough get out of this? If I wanted to support the team that represented Windsor and Eton, I bloody well would. I grew up supporting Slough Town and refuse to believe there isn't a way back into the town. I still think we're a big enough club to keep going and persevere, instead of 'doing a Yeading' and getting swallowed up, which is ultimately what I think will happen to them, no matter how good their 'proposition' with Hayes sounds. And I also think that a merged club would get no more than about 200 through the gate, so where's the benefit there? Some of the many reasons we're opposed to it, not to mention both clubs losing their history.

And whilst Stag Meadow is suitable for both clubs' needs right now, what about if the opportunity arose to expand and get it ready for Conference standard? Would it even be possible? Look at the car parking situation as one example.

Bullsh*t Slough need a ground and windsor need to bolster their squad, not one fan of either club would want a merger, i would not support a merger or the club that comes out of it, and i think any fan of either team would feel the same, so if you have a merger, you have a club with no fans whatsoever. Now that makes senSe (how to spell it btw)

its all good tub thumping stuff and I understand the comments made on here and indeed other forums but the harsh reality is that fans do support merged clubs and many of them understand the reality of it all....the gravesend name change is another foresighted example of commerciality overcoming blind tribalism...the first reaction on that forum was the same...we won't go...but they will....

I would not wish to see my club merge with any other club and I have no doubt that ALL fans of ALL clubs will say the same and mean it.....what I actually said in the first instance was that it will become an inevitability in the future as london based NL clubs do merge and become stronger....I have no doubt that the new club at hayes will be pushing for the conference in the next couple of years and that their gates will rise as a result of that...in a few years time no one will remember or care about the merger and their history will remain with them...

Slough is a very different place to Windsor. Slough has a population of 120,000 (even more accroding to Richard Stokes)and can maintain a decent level of football.

Maidstone, Chelmsford, Dartford were all homeless for years but now have their own grounds back in the place their represent, Dartford and Chelmsford pulling in gates of 1,000 +. Should they have merged

when things weren't going so well?

I'm with Roger, if we merged with Windsor, i'd stop going and would push for an AFC Slough.
