Hello all, I've just returned from my Slough Ladies FC AGM with some (i think) exciting news.

As many of you will know, I've been playing with the Slough Ladies for the past season and have often thought that it was daft that they and STFC were not more closely associated.

I have since found out that a previous manager of STFC (before Denton was all they would divulge) apparently told them that women shouldn't be playing football - which as you can imagine, rather soured the team's attitude towards STFC.

Since I have been voted a member of the fundraising committee for the ladies' team, I suggested that we reignite the link between the two, since both clubs were under new management, both had new players and both needed publicity and funds. They have now agreed, providing that the effort swings both ways.

Here is where I need your help guys. The Ladies' team have their end of season awards evening on Friday 8th June at Beaconsfield SYCOB FC - home to the SLFC 1st XI. (Time to be confirmed).

Tickets are £2 on the door, food and a DJ are being provided (as well as a bar which sadly isn't free) and there will also be a raffle. If the event goes well, the club would look to take part in joint fundraising events in the future which would obviously benefit both clubs.

And there's the chance to see the girls make fun of themselves as all players are required to turn up in fancy dress (guests can too, but its not mandatory!)

I know many of you won't even be aware that there is a ladies football club in Slough (which finished 3rd in their league i might add) and might be tempted to give this a miss, but if we forge the links now this could provide the council with the impetus to apply more pressure for a community football ground for both teams.

Many thanks in advance

Charlie

Sounds like a good idea to strengthen links between the two clubs.

This may seem like a daft question, and maybe Charlie you might know the answer, but why arn't the two clubs under 1 umbrella anyway?

Sounds good. I know that back in the Conference days the links were pretty close and there was always information about the Ladies team in the programme. Not entirely sure what soured the relationship but our abject financial position probably did not help.

I think it went all bad when the girls wanted new kit, pitch, balls ect, then club asked them to help sell things like christmas draw tickets they wouldn't

Charlie has made a very good point. If funding for a new ground is to be sought from the football foundation, it will be much more likely to be successful if there are strong links with other local sides.

I'm sure that there are many things that could be done to help each other.

  • 3 weeks later...

Hello Gary, yes we found a DJ who was willing to help out for £180 which was nice...if you'd like to come along anyway that'd be lovely (I'd like to see as many slough fans there as possible) but I couldn't offer you payment for photos or anything so unless you're feeling charitable its probably better to say thanks but no thanks (and avoid getting me into trouble!)

I like the implication of Gary hiring out his photography services.

I'm planning to go, anyone else intending to bob along to this?

Sorry, should've mentioned that earlier - door's open at 19:30 and its predicted to go on til around 23:00. There's also a raffle with some pretty good prizes - a ball and shirt signed by Fulham FC being two of them... I think there's a nice meal for two prize as well.

I'd just like to say a special thank you to Gary and Martin for giving up their friday night to come along to this awards evening...it meant a lot to me personally that they were there. Gary also very kindly took some photographs of the event which i'm sure we'll see soon enough.

Is that a hint? smile

The awards appear to have come out well enough, but the one of all the ladies in fancy dress didn't sadly. Hopefully the picture taken on the other camera will have done though.
