Club News Update

Recommended Posts

Good to get an update on all counts from the club.

As others have said above, I am disappointed to see Oates and Sappleton go, Haworth too. But we have a good base on which to build up a squad, and hopefully Skinner and Standen can both be added to the confirmed list in due course.

Good to see that the 5-a-side pitches will be started soon too.

I don't read this as Greg, Pat etc will nt be playing for us next season. Those out of contract may be about to re-negotiate a new contract to fit in with the new budget. If I know Robin, most of the team news will come through in the first half of the close season.

Pleased with the backbone of the team being kept. Trotty must have a fair few names lined up, though, if this is squad thus far. Worrying lack of central defenders in there though. With Trotty now no longer playing, and Pat and Donovan seemingly on their way out, we are only left with Louis Smith. So further investment needed in that area?

Nice to see an update from the club - let's hope it becomes a regular occurence!

Couple of surprises for me :

Surprised but delighted SCS is retained.

Surprise and disappointed that Haworth not retained

Not surprised but disappointed that Sapps may go elsewhere.

I think Protheroe wil be a great signing for another manager.

Hope Dean S and Skinns do sign as otherwise i am not that confident that RT will get 6/7 decent new players in-has he that many contacts at this stage in his managerial carrer?

As others state-we have no defenders !!

Whats the score with Abbo-persumably released ?

Now shot me down in a ball of flames if I am wrong but, this is my spin on the retained.

In the last few weeks of the season I heard that 6 players had contracts that carried over into next season and we have heard that Loius Smith (FMC) had been offered a new 2 year contract. Therefore, the retained list is the 6 players who were contracted anyway plus Louis Smith (FMC).

I interpret this as all last seasons players have not, not been offered a contract at this point in time with the exception of Skins and, Deano.

If this analysis is incorrect I appologise in advance to anyone whom it may offend.

Whilst I couldn't confirm the exact numbers I tend to agree with you Joseba. If you go back to the dark days of two / three years ago, we didn't have this many signed on in the last week of pre-season!

Tend to see it same as you Joseba-(although i hope Wellsie is right and we are wrong)

Effectively-Protheroe,Sapps,Abbott,Oates,Mitten,Donovan,Haworth. (and sesay-remember him ) all released

We were probably a couple of players short anyway, plus Trott not playing; so efectively RT needs to replace the above released players with better quality than them.

How's he going to do that ?

That makes 10 summer signings of better quality than those released.?

If RT can pull that off,he will go up massively in my estimation and wish him well.

(thats assuming both DS and JS also re-sign-otherwise its about 12 players needed.!!!

Overall, i am surprised so many released-can understand Sapps-maybe we can't afford him.

Strong backbone to the team. Youngsters and a few reserves coming through. Think I said before that its probably the best thing to do in our position. I think we need a couple of centre backs that are experienced though. I think some of the reserves can cut it in the Ryman prem but just need regular games and the chance to do so. Pleased with the retained list and in particular SCS.

I think that might not be such a bad idea. I think a policy of having 6 or 7 really good quality players and a mixture of youngters and local players would be very interesting.
I think a problem next season will be the high standard of the ryman premier at the top. Billericay,AFCW and Chelmsford will all again be strong teams. Borehamwood,Ramsgate,Hornchurch and Maidstone will also be a threat.
In many ways i think the gap between Rymans premier and Conference south is marginal.
So i think you have to be a really strong team to get promoted, with a fair degree of luck.
The options next season seems to be really go for it or build for the future.

Think you lot have missed the point he has not kept any reserves from last year or fringe players they are being offered out to Kent sides as we speak don't think there are any players ready for Rymans prem in the reserves better than what he has let go from last season.
