charlie not heading to Preistfield

Recommended Posts

Maybe we could have him back at Charlton to try and fire us back to the Premiership. It would mean we could start with a non-league recruited front line with Chris Dickson and Charlie at the top of the 4-4-2!!!!!! In all seriousness I hope if Charlie does decide to move on he gets a chance with a decent club in league one or the Championship. I like all Fleet fans, would love him to stay and that would give the squad a real boost.

Absolutely. At the end of the day, Charlie has to do whats best for him, and I sincerely hope that we can convince him that next season we will have the right sponsor willing to put money and effort into promoting the club, and help to push for league 2 next year.

Its somewhat surprising that people are still hoping he re-signs.

Even Liam Daish appears to have given up hope of him re-signing judging by his comments in the papers last week.

If you were Charlie McDonald, would you choose to:

a) Continue to play for a team at least a couple of Leagues below your natural ability, with ambitions of a Play-Off place.

Earning 1-1.5K a week at best.

B) Sign for a League Team, double your wages, maybe collect a hefty signing on fee and prove you can do it in the League.

At his age, signing for a League Two/One team would make sense - as he would be likely to play regularly. No use signing for a championship side if you are going to sit on the bench. He needs to prove he can do it in the League first.

To be honest he would be mad to re-sign for Ebbsfleet United!

He certainly would be if anyone has actually offered to double his wages and give him a hefty signing on fee, but of course if he is just talking at present then he may have to go through pre-season trials with no guarantee of a contract at the end.

There's nothing wrong with hoping. After all even on the last day over at dagenham, I was still hoping we made the play-offs, just because it was almost an impossibility, did not stop me hoping we could make it.

Agreed. I'm hoping I win the lottery so I can change the name back to Gravesend and Northfleet F.C. - but its not likely to happen.

Sorry to dampen everyone's optimism. In Charlie's case his given us 2 good years service and in return the Club has arguably put his footballing career back on track by giving him the chance to play full-time football. So we have all benefited.

Rather than hoping Charlie re-signs maybe we should be asking who out there is going to replace him? Without his goals next season your probably looking at a mid-table finish unless the Club brings in a proven scorer (expensive) or take a chance on someone like John Main, who I believe has indicated wants to play full-time football.

None of those players looked as if they could score consistently throughout the season although Luke and Sodje both had spells where they would score a few, then have a bad game and drop out of the side for a few matches.

In my view, we need an experienced forward, possible someone dropping out of the league, with Luke playing off him.
