Went to watch England at Priestfield this afternoon, a good 4-0 win and only a fiver.

 

Michaelmichael will be pleased to hear that Rachael Unitt played everso well.

Unitt was exceptionally calm and assured at the back, but also showed her attacking credentials with that strong left foot. I was really impressed with Mary Phillips at the back, what a tidy player. Kelly Smith is at an altogether higher level. I was very sorry that Aduko and Yankee did not play, as they are both good to watch, but Sue Smith did a good job, certainly full of running, very like Pinns. Young Karen Carney when she came on lit up the pitch, she has so much promise at only 19.

England were attack, attack, attack, and Northern Ireland did not have anything to offer as a counter, but I would say that, no respect to the Irish team, better opposition would have punished us for profligacy in front of goal. It was good to watch so much attacking play though, especially as they were shooting towards us at the Rainham end in the second half, and the ball hardly crossed the centre line.

Sanderson's goal at the end was a joy, she rounded the keeper and netted with great individual skill, reminded me of our Danny. Katie Chapman scored a blinder from the edge of the box for the third goal, very much a Protheroe type strike. The first two goals were rather scrambled affairs, the second came off an Irish defender on its way in.

I did feel for the opposition, as they had to defend almost for the entire game, it must have been quite demoralising, but they dug in and never gave up.

The funniest bit was that we had two different versions of 'God save the Queen' at the beginning, because it was an international, we had to have two anthems!
