sorry for that its just off St leornards road Deal. If your going from Margate go via Sandwich by pass and go towards deal as you come into sholden you come to a mini roundabout. go straight across and St leornards road is on your left. Go down St leonards Road and the ground is about half way down on your right set back between the houses. See you there.

On a chilly, damp evening at Deal, a depleted Reserve side, due to injuries and the fact the U18's were also playing, came up against a Deal side filled with quite a few first teamers. However they stuck to their task admirably and came away with a hard fought 1-1 draw.

The first 10 mins Deal showed their experience with attack after attack and it was no surprise when they took the lead which none of us saw because we were talking to much between us wink

After 17 mins Margate had a great chance to level the scores when a Hoggart free kick came out to Dan Whisker who hit a low shot thro the defence which came through to Karl Barron about a yard away on the left post who had the easy job of tucking it away. However he completely miskicked and the chance went begging.

In the 25th miunute Deal had a chance to double their lead when an attacker was one to one with Nathan Jeavons but was bravely saved at the feet of the forward.

Then 10 mins later Kiron Morris ran through the Deal defence but his final effort went wide of the left post. Just 4 minutes later Margate were level when a ball hit down the left touchline by Darryn Vanhinsberg was left by the Deal full back who thought it was going out. However Barron picked it up and from the left side of the area some 25 yards out hit a delightful lob over the oncoming keeper to pick up his 16th goal in 16 games.

In the second half Kenny Pratt went down stretching for the ball and pulled a hamstring again, to round off an unlucky season for him. Paul Axon our only sub came on to replace him. Then Tony Newman also had to go off injured after a hard challenge which left Margate with 10 men and having to reorganise their defence.

Deal did get the ball in the net after 22 minutes but the goal was rightly disallowed for a foul on Jeavons. Morris then had a chance in the 33rd minute but his shot went wide right. Five minutes later Deal had a great chance to clinch the game but once again Jeavons pulled off a fine save. Then Margate had a great chance to win the game in the dying minutes when Axon and Barron both broke through but Axon seemed to get the ball tucked under him and the chance was lost.

The game was also watched by Robin Trott who told me he thought the lads played well against a more experienced side and didn't stop working for each other. I must say I thought the makeshift defence coped well most of the time, Whisker and Morris put in some stern work in midfield and Barron, apart from the miss, probably had his best game I have seen him play scoring a great goal and didn't stop running all night.

Team: Jeavons, Newman, Vanhinsberg, Heath, Smith, Weatherley, Whisker, Morris, Pratt, Barron, Hoggart Sub. Axon

A fair report thanks TA, I must say I thought Barrons goal was a screamer, if Trott saw that with his record and work rate I see no reason why he should not invite this lad up with the first team at least to train and get some first team experience under his belt not sure he expected the first chance.

I know some will say on here players need experience but that was quality, and from what I have seen it is not an isolated occurrence? Thought the keeper done well last night, Morris needs to work on his first touch, and the no7? needs to release a ball early, thought our centre backs played very well. Also though Whisker played well, where is Bagley I thought he might play last night?

could have won it!!

No probs Michael. I must say have thoroughly enjoyed watching the Reserves this season when I could. Just thought it was nice for them to see their names in print too albeit only on this forum, tho I think my reports may have been used once or twice in programme by Steve.

Just a point of note that our No. 7 was Dan Whisker, Centre backs were Louis Smith & Alan Heath and at the end was supposed to be playing 3 at the back but Morris filled in at right back and special mention to Daryn Vahnisberg who played left back for the first time ever and came into his own during the second half
