Res Game

A really good game to watch in the pissing rain. IS is correct the score finished 1-1 with the Margate scorer being Karl Barron thats 15 goals in 15 games what a great return since joining, told his dad he needs to work on his finishing lol.

The result means Ramsgate win the floodlight Trophy, so keep the red half of Thanet well and truely happy.

Yeah it was a good result and a fair result overall. Dover created the better chances and could have regained the lead but Margate held out for the last few minutes.

The Margate goal was created by Paul Axon not giving up on a ball in the corner playing back to stellon (I think) who then crossed to the far post it was nodded back across goal for Barron who managed to beat two Dover defenders to the ball to volley in fron 2 Yards.

Just sat down and read this what a good result would like to have seen the game, what a return 15 from 15 remarkable we have an exellent partnership on the front line. I think carl Barron played for Dover last year? from what I have seen both our strikers there have the potential to move on but I think its to early for them at the moment.

Hope they both stay and the management are aware of them and try to secure them for next year!

Yeah Stellon is still there but not used much lately since picking up an injury after xmas.

He is a good prospect good touch fast and atheletic just needs a run in the team again to regain his confidence.

They are a good reserve side but IMO not one player is ready for the big step up to first team football in the ryman premier. That said about 5 or 6 are good enough for Kent league football and would probably benifit from playing in the lower leagues to gain experiance.

The likes of Barron, Pratt, Stellon, Hoggart, Stokes? would all do a job in the Kent league and If Margate keep any of them they should put them out on loan for a season to see how they progress because what they done this year with Dalton, Wisker, Bagley, Allen, and a few others was imo a [****!!****]-ng joke and waisted a years football education for these players.

Trott signed them on to make up the numbers and 99% of the time they sat on the bench or in the stands after travelling away to as far away as Glouster. If anyone can justify that rather than letting them keep match fit with the ressis then your a better man than me.

I truely believe being close to the situation that the whole ressi setup is to appease us supporters because the likes of Ramsgate were showing Margate up with their excellent youth policy.

Interesting comment RFC have a good Policy I agree with you there but they have IMO gone as far as they will go, the best of their young players will eventually turn up at Margate. IMO any player in the first team squad should be out on loan or playing reserve football if not making appearances, they should never travel to just make numbers up.........

Don't you also learn by being surrounded by those of probably a higher quality;and hence, i would have thought being with the firstteam squad would be of enormous benefit.

If its week in week out and no action-yes-maybe a bit dis-heartening-but surely all part of the learning process ,and the guys need to show patience and mental toughness to perservere. All part of it i would have thought.

Maybe RT is also sending out the message that-you need to be 'a little bit better' before you earn the right to play for the first team.

Yes In one way your right it is a benifit to these players being with the first team squad. But there has got to be something at the end of it. I believe he should have played them a bit more at the end of games for 20 min hear and there. Instead he did'nt change it to give a freshness to the side to change things around.

Look how many games last season where it needed something different and how the supporters (who are always right lol) said there was no passion or disire. Why did'nt the management team throw a few of the younger players on ? we had nothing to lose and loads to gain.

Another point you make is to be patient and perservere well I think most of the players who came through this season have but now they are not renewing contracts for these lads what was the point and what will be the point in the future for the up and coming ressis.

TQA you say that Ramsgate have gone as far as they are likely to go and you might be right but atleast the players are playing in the highest league a thanet team is capable off at the moment and the local lads have a chance there, Getting a long run of apperances. Margate don't give many a chance to play week in week out because their ambitions are higher and they believe they should be higher by right. So if they do get into the Conf south next season the local lads will be disregarded and they will plough more money in and go for players already tried and tested at that level. Ramsgate have always signed the locals and put them on loan to gain experiance then if good enough they have brought them back. Look at Cory came to Margate preseason quality striker and Trotty plays him in center mid-field for pre-season friendlies goes back to Ramsgate who send him on loan to Deal he comes back because they have a striker shortage and plays really well and scores a few and keeps his place. Lee mishull again loaned to Deal comes in preseason does enough to get a chance first team and just won player of the year.

Thats what I mean about getting a chance at Ramsgate and not Margate I don't think Trooty has a clue on how to manage players or how to deal with them either and I think over this season this will back fire on him big time. I hope it does'nt for Margate sake but I think it will.

Fair comment but if you look at Ramsgate BigTW you have to agree they are at their performance level? I cannot see them going any higher can you?

I do taker your point regarding the players, you are right they do seem to bring through the local lads far better and in the overall picture of things they have done very well.

Simple then, who feels RT Has his finger on the Youth Pulse, does he know who he has in the reserve team, does he care. If he has spoken to all the players by now it would seem he has ignored all of them in regards to contracts, if that is the case I agree with your earlier comments about appeasement.

I have said this time and time again we should give contracts to our best prospects I am not talking loads of money however they need to be held and protected, looks like that is not going to happen, we will lose them to the Kent League.

from a reserve players point of view we feel isolated from the first team being that most of us work and live around thanet and in order to attend training we would have to probably leave work early in order to get there in time which being honest no company would let you do week in week out.

I'm not sure if the stats will back me up in total here but the games I actually did pay attention in the gazette that normally when there were reserve players on the bench they did not play regardless of the position they play in.

All in all as well I believe that Robin Trott has been to see two games (that I know of) of the reserves and although I do believe he should be getting some possible information from Mark Weatherley on progress of players he should also be able to draw his own conclusions although admittedly we have played [****!!****] in the two games I know he witnessed

I think BTW's point on communicating with players and man managing players of all ages and temperaments is well made.

It is probably my biggest concern with RT's style.

I would add though ,that i believe RT is 1st team manager and not club manager.Similarly,MW is reserve manager and not club manager.

Notwithstanding that, there should of course be plenty of dialogue between the two -i do not know if that happened or not but the suggestion above is that it did not happen enough.

Again, in fairness to RT, last season he was playing-and thus had to train to keep up-and try and see other games for scouting etc.

In fairness, there is only so much the guy can do; but perhaps if he is playing less, the concerns you raise will be addrssed by RT this season-i agree they need to be -and this coming season, hopefully he will be able to give the reserves more attention .

I would agree you guys and fans of the reserves deserve it.

Cracking first season imo.

obviously robin trott does have comunication with mark weatherly, otherwise how would dan dolton, dan allen, kieron morris all end up with the 1st team? i agree tho it would be a big boost to have trotty watching, likewise tho it was a big boost knowing that mike flanagan was watching at the tilbury game. if they didnt care they wouldnt come and watch.

Not a bad point, but it needs to be Policy, that is what drives quality, without that you can forget driving young players forward, love them or hate them some players opt for Ramsgate because they feel they have better chance of first team football, acceptable if we were miles in front of them but we are not are we.

MW does a great job, I am worried that I find myself agreeing with BigTW, you don’t ever see a report in the paper, no reserves reports within the home page.

Its left to others to try and raise the awareness of the ressie team and players at this level. To attract quality players especially now we cannot pay what we did the reserve set up is imo critical to the club.

So give them some support, raise their profile, develop them and push them through, RT must be at the forefront of this he is the Club Manager at the end of the day and should have his finger firmly on the pulse of this team, the eighteens & Sixteen’s as a minimum.

Ressiyoungster there's nothing obvious about it Mw contacts Trotty and puts players forward for first team training but that only happens when the first team are strugling for players. The players you mentioned will never get a game with the first team next year because they have served a purpose and are not needed this year because Trotty would have signed 99% of the squad from outside the club the exception to the rule being Louis Smith.

Now don't get me wrong 1 player from the local area is 100% more than Margate have acceive over the last god knows how many years but Smith is 22 years old hardly a youngster and he came through Kent football anyway.

I'm going to sit back now and reserve judgement untill the end of this coming season but I don't mind having a little wager that Trotty and Flanagan will f-ck it up again.

My reasoning is Trotty has no player communication skills and Flanagan could'nt run a bath you've only got to ask any Gills fan who the worst manager they ever had was and 99% will say his name.

I can honestly see where you are coming from, bigtw, and you have a lot more experience of youth football than I, and a vested interest in the success of it vis a vis your very talented son.

And I may probably be the only one around here that finds this constant drip drip of criticism of our management team uncomfortable reading. I do not think that Trotty had a bad first season, we ended up in a very good position in the league, and earned considerable respect from other teams for it. We played some very good football at times, OK we did not sweep all before us a la premiership leaders but neither did any of the other teams in the league, and at our level it would be unrealistic to expect that. I was interested by your judgement of Mike Flanagan, I had a long chat with one of our most senior players during the season and he was very much more appreciative of what Mike brings to the management set up than you were, and his having been around quite a few clubs, and played at a higher level than he currently plays, I took his opinions seriously.

As far as Trotty goes, he is a straight-talking and rather uncompromising man, highly ambitious, and has a strong opinion of the way he wants to manage. I do not have a problem with that, better to have that than a ditherer, the players must know this is so, and would need to buy into that to go forward with him for sure. But I do feel that at this stage of the year, when we know he is to be our manager next season, and we all want success for the team next year, we would do better to get behind him and his management team, and his player choices, and look forward rather than tear down.
