Trust statement re involvement name change.

Recommended Posts

Notwithstanding the statement made by Jason at the meeting on Tuesday 1st May. Although it is correct to say I was informed of the impending name change on Sat 28th prior to the D and R game and was asked my opinion, the opinion I gave was mine and mine alone as clearly Trust members had not been contacted (this should happen within the next couple of weeks).

The Trust were not involved in the decision making process so were not consulted prior to the open meeting that was held.

If anyone has any questions with regard to the name change, the best course of action would be to write to the Chairman of the Football Club. Indeed I understand that some supporters have already done so.

It is hoped that a statement from the Trust Board will be posted on the Trust site after our Board meeting next Thursday,

Thanks for taking the time to post. Despite my rants on here about the "lack of consultation" regarding the name change I consider myself a fairly level-headed fan. I'm not really opposed to the name change - I can understand why it has been done.

More importantly, I've never expected the Board to consult with me as a fan on anything (Why should they?). However, I do feel strongly that the Fleet Trust should have been properly consulted on this matter.

Who know's - maybe the Fleet Trust could have come up with a more interesting sounding name than the rather predictable "Ebbsfleet United F.C.". Too late now I know but something like "Ebbsfleet internazionale F.C." (pronounced and spelt the Italian way so it "rolls" off the tongue) may have made us sound more important and interesting to potential new sponsors.

Ebbsfleet Wednesday gets my vote !!!

Bit quiet on here today so I thought that I would start the ball rolling, so here goes:-

Some people have said that they would never go to watch Ebbsfleet. I find this view a little short sighted as, as has been said before, for those who reside in Gravesham, it is still the local team.....same ground ( for now !) same team ( allowing for summer comings & goings ).....same everything bar the name.

If the newly named team do reasonably well and, witches curses not provailing, get a run in the FA cup, would the missing 6,000 still wander up to an away tie at a premieship club ( or Charlton !!)

I bet the Newton Heath fans were up in arms when they changed their name to Manchester Utd ( this post is not sponsored by Utd Fan !), but it didn't do them much harm in the long run.

I myself was particularly disturbed when Wednesday FC became Sheffield Wednesday, but I have learned to live with it now !

I will watch out with interest the Trust's official statement on the " state of play " with the club. Surely we all stand ( or sit !) together ?

But, always remember this.....take life seriously, but don't take yourself seriously !.....oh...& cheaper beer wouldn't go amiss ! drinkies

Looking forward to visting Oxford again next season already !!

Cheers all....

Up the (Ebbs)fleet.......

yay

Take drink, you can change the name, but as long as the taste is the same, that's all that matters!
I would still love to be in the bar, watching Hirsty, supping a pint of Wimpbend, instead of Strongbow, though! beer

If it was cheaper, tasted as good & had the same alcohol content, then I have no issue !! They could call it p*sswater as far as I am concerned ( or have Fosters already got the rights to that one ?)

Cheers,

drinkies

That's right, at the end of the day all they've done is juggle the letters a little at the front of the ground and on the badge. Changes happen everywhere in life, most people don't like change but sometimes its necessary. We just have to hope that the gamble pays off, but I'm sure they've looked long and hard at this, they've always been a board we could trust up to now and I'm willing to believe them this time too.
