playSlough top of the local teams !

Yes we may have had our worse season ever in terms of position and goals conceeded....and relegation ....

But in terms of support ! Slough are Tops with regards to our local teams..

Inc ... Maidenhead ..promoted today with average home attendances just below us !

Burnham failed to capture the locals attention with a promotion play off team..

Windsor .... well below par

Hayes ... relegated (pending another reprive again...less than 200 average...

Yeading ... Conference south ..less than slough...

ALL this for a team without a ground and relegated !!

And this year receiving praise and congratulations from many many teams especially when Slough travel away ! taking an average a 100 supporters.... A CREDIT TO YOUR TEAM AND TOWN...

Thanks and well done... chris s

Indeed, the players have mentioned lots of times that the way the fans have been this season is one of the main reasons why the stayed and gave their all, even with 5 minutes to go in matches that had been over for ages.

Well done to all our fans, let's keep it up for next season.

That's an interesting observation, Chris, but even given that Slough's QUALITY of support is second to none, the numbers may depend on how you view it, for example:

Population of Slough approx 119,000 Avg attendance 272 = 0.23%

Population of Burnham approx 13,500 Avg Attendance 152 = 1.12%

Population of Windsor approx 53,000 Avg Attendance 137 = 0.26%

(rough split of Windsor and M'head Borough)

Also the Burnham and Windsor attendances did not include any attendances such as the AFC Wimbledon turnout....

youve also got to consider the quality of support at slough where the fans get behind the team and do vocally support the team andburnham where it doesnt seem to have much atmosphere where you havent got groups of supporters vocally shouting for their team. imo

I think you're right Marcus, (not the spouting bit !!)

The majority of the Slough population would be more interested in other sports.

We need to look into ways of advertising the club to the differing cultures that Slough has.

yes very good points Amber and blue...

but Slough traditional has lots of migrant workers and as above we have the largest groups contained in that ..and the biggest point not picked up...We dont play our games at a "home" ground...the other s do... a big influence I feel... So technically we are playing in Windsor so our figures should be taken in contaext with the windsor population ...

lol...

what ever...

cheers chris

What are the club/trust/supporters trying to do to entice the cultures to come and watch their local team? I appreciate this season has hardly been a good one to encourage people to come along, but certainly thinking ahead to next season, we should be looking to try and actively encourage all races/ethnics to be attending.

A few ideas :

Make a few posters in the various languages, and place them in shops/resturants/clubs/buses/places that are mostly frequented.

Promote specific players. For example, promote Lucas in the Polish adverts.

Advertise in any ethnic publications.

Another idea...

perhaps take these posters to Power League? Loads of different groups of people taking an active part in community football there... Also, with the new Asian Star FM radio being set up it might be an idea to approach them along with Time before the new season?

i do think the asian market if you want to call it that is an area to tap into and although you could say that traditionally asian people prefer cricket more are becoming interested in football, also i think some asians in the past have been put off by racism but as has been said slough is by and large a racially harmonious town which is a great plus, when more asians make it into football proffessionally it will filter down,a lot of asians support liverpool i dont know why lol, but seriously if you also look at sponsorship doesnt some indian chap support school soccer league in slough.

polish people do like football and yes lucas would be a good selling point to the polish community.

I'd say Slough is a football town thru and thru.

I personally have to disagree unfortunately, and at no point did i question a race? As said before we have very good links with the polish community it is the asian community i feel that are not knowing/bothered about the club as traditionally tis not a sport of asian cultures, we have very few black/asian people coming to games-- so i think we have to ask ourselves why not...

But to be honest we have very few people of any race/religion coming to our games.

I'd say compared to a lot of local clubs we do have a few Asians coming to games, especially younger ones. All you can do is make people feel welcome, but it might be worth someone taking posters down Chalvey to ask if any shops would be up for advertising our games.

When I was playing for Crusaders from the age of about 12 (managed by Joe Maloney and Brian McDermot - who both became Slough players) it was like the United Nations (including Asians) and all of us used to go and support Slough. It felt like our club.

The problem as Chris said is playing at Windsor. I don't think we would have all cycled there after football training.

I feel attracting anyone new is going to be a struggle next season considering the level of football. Lets hope we get a good cup run to pull in the punters!
