A May 12th cracker ..... ! !

Recommended Posts

I thought I would set this cracker up for you all involving my old friend Ben Embery ......

The real cliffhanger of a last day for Ben Embery in his first season as Manager at Benfleet FC. After their shock defeat by Faces FC this afternoon 1-2, their first of the season, the two major contenders for the Senior Division Two title of the Essex Olympian League come head to head on Saturday 12th May kick off 2.30 pm, the final day of action for the clubs, at Woodside Park, Benfleet, league leaders Shell Club ( Corringham ) , whose only defeat was at the hands of Ongar Town on 28th October 2006, and second place Benfleet. The winner takes the title as this is the situation with only two goals in it !

1) Shell Club ( Corringham) 25 21 3 1 77 18 + 59 66

2) Benfleet 25 20 4 1 79 18 + 61 64

Ben won two Essex Senior League titles with Canvey Island and Concord Rangers and an Essex Olympian League Div 2 title with Great Wakering Rovers in season 1991-92 so will this be a quite unique record if successful on Saturday. Whatever the result, promotion has already been secured and his achievements , legendary.

Benfleet beat Shell Club Corringham 2-0 at Woodside this afternoon in front of a good crowd with two blistering goals in the second half to win the Essex Olympian League Senior Division Two title and elevate Ben Embery to unique status in terms of League titles won with different clubs. I lost count of the well known faces in the teams and among the crowd, the latter folk going way back to when I started on this road at Canvey Island with Ben and John Wellmen some 25 years ago ! Good luck to Benfleet in the top division and great if they fulfill Dave Dady's dream of " enclosing" the ground - who knows what the future will then bring ?
