Bromley v Billericay - The Big One

Recommended Posts

Well, I've taken some time reading all the comments on the forum and taken stock as to what has been said. Once again, I'm struck as to how supportive the "Blue Army" have been without giving it large about winning the game. I know we all want to win it but there is a thread through out all the comments that, come what may, we're there to enjoy ourselves, supporting the team, in what is one of the biggest climax's in this clubs history...

Some have said that this game is the biggest thing in it's history. I would say it's on a par. The whole season has been every bit as exciting as any in the 1970's and certainly points towards bigger things to come...that I'm sure of. Who would've thought three seasons ago, when our new chairman came in, a new beginning would brig the club to the brink of such success so soon? Credit must go to him as well as to our manager (who must be the coolest customer on the bench, in my opinion - does anything ruffle him? - well perhaps his missus), the players (especially those that have been here over the past couple of seasons - my, how they have come on), the officials who, day after day, work hard at making the matchdays run so smoothly (and I do include our turnstile operators in that sentiment) and us the supporters, who have been awsome this season. applause

It's been my pleasure being a (small) part of the club this season and whatever happens, I've enjoyed it.

So...onwards to Saturday...1.30...coooorrrrrr, 'ave a laugh....I can't wait!!!

Surely this is the biggest game in the clubs history to get back on to step two of the non league pyramid the highest level the clubs ever played at and of course now technically a higher standard owing to it being two leagues rather than three

If we win it will be a fantastic achievement by all the players coaching staff etc particularly with the amount of money thrown at the title by our former tenants but whatever happens it has been a fantastic season

Whatever happens as we have a young team with a young manager we can only get better next season and hopefully Matty will pull out another gem from somewhere lower down the pyramid

I would agree that this game is one of the biggest games in the clubs history and the most important game for the club as in going forward and getting up the pyramid.

Things change and football has certainly moved on since those heady "Wembley" days, which I must admit, I can remember only the occassion...how I felt before, during and after has been filed away somewhere but if it was anything like it was on Monday and now and what I expect it will feel tomorrow before the game, then it was great to be alive!!! As it is now. I would also point out that we went through the "minor" leagues like [****!!****] through a duck to end up competeing in the Ryman Premier.

Don't get me wrong. Over the past five or six seasons, I have been a advocate of "look to the future as the history is done" but that doesn't mean that those that can remember can't use it as a comparison. We have plenty of people that were around and remember those days still supporting the club. To forget them would be churlish as many of them will be there tomorrow, supporting the team in their own but maybe quieter way.

History serves to give us memories to muse on, events to recount and lessons which to learn from but we're here to deal with the now. Sunday morning, Saturday's game, come win or lose, will be consigned to the history books as much as Monday's Chelmsford game has.

To compare this and the past two seasons as exciting as anything that happened during the '70's is accolade enough...to acknowledge that the club has now the potential to surpase those acheivements, is recognition of the "vision of our Chairman, Manager, the talent of our players and the dedication of our supporters" over the past couple of years...

The first ever football match was at the age of 12 when I attended the 1976 vase final against Stamford, I have supported the club ever since.

The club achieved great things in their “vase era” but I agree this game has to be the most important of the clubs history. I feel that they on the way to something big and am just as excited as in those far off days of the 70’s.

I won’t be able to come down for the match but my thoughts will be with the boys. I will be glued to this forum for updates. I hope to make it down for the first game of the new season in the Conference League (South)!
