NOTHING SHORT OF A DISGRACE

The Directors should have consulted with the Supporters Trust over the "Name Change". Did this happen? If so, why was the news not relayed to its members? I suspect no such consultation occurred.

The Chairman of the Supporter's Trust certainly knew about it on Saturday, so presumably she was consulted.

There was I trying to be polite and friendly in a situation that has not been ( I assume ? ) experienced for 60 odd years, trying to encompass the "united" banner, and you take the p*ss grinarse Surely not ?!

Anyway, as previous mentioned, I am booked on that course entitled, How To Talk B*llocks ( strangely, the tutor for this is a Mr Utdfan !!), Be Obnoxious, and Generally P*ss People Off !

I am not confident of passing the exam, but I will advise when I get the results ! Thanks for your interest.

Cheers,

Several posts refer to other clubs name changes not being comparable.

Purfleet changed their name to Thurrock? Have their gates gone up ? Are they more successful ?

If the new support is coming from Ebbsfleet, surely the potential new support from Gravesend,Meopham and other villages etc is now lost as none of the youngsters go to school in 'Ebbsfleet'.

Several days have passed and I still cannot believe it. It is like calling the club Bean or Stone, Swanscombe or Rosherville.

A more global name like Thames Gateway or North Kent would get new support from the natives of a far greater area.

I just feel that if the new people, from Ebbsfleet, were interested in Football, they would go to their nearest club, no matter what it was called. If this is linked to future sponsorship, then the Board(should)know what they are doing!

I don't like the name change, but if it increases the finances of the club, then so be it!

Everyone is assuming that the future population of Ebbsfleet (currently numbering zero) will move into the area without any prior football affiliations. It seems rather unlikely that very many of these people will suddenly find football (ie like finding religion) simply by moving into a new town called Ebbsfleet. We may acquire some new fans of course, but a 15 minute railway ride to Kings Cross/St Pancras is going to look mighty appealing to, say, would-be Arsenal fans.

Watch Arsenal ? why pay all that money to go to Emirates when they can watch it on telly every Sunday.....maybe, just maybe, they may want some fresh air & local live football ?

You're not happy are you KMJ ?

Cheers,

Hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately most other fans on here appear to be looking way too long term on the effect of Ebbsfleet's growth. People need to consider the short term effects this new name is going to have on the club in the next 5 years. Ok, so we might be able to survive with what I guess will be greater investment in the club. But our gates will begin to suffer. I don't wanna wait 15 odd years till we start seeing our gates go up when new residents in ebbsfleet notice they have a football team. Meanwhile, the people of gravesend will be saying, "Huh, no local team in this town, might aswell support gillingham".

Every person I've talked to about the new name who isn't a fan have said it's a s**t name. Everyone from the outside, like other conference fans, seem to think it's a stupid decision aswell. I would like to prove them wrong when Ebbsfleet's population start supporting the club, pushing us onto better and greater things. Oh hang on, nobody lives there yet do they?

Jason Botley has said: "Becoming Ebbsfleet United FC was a strategic decision by the club for our future. The change will provide many new benefits; not least the ability to attract new commercial investment as North West Kent’s growth continues a pace". Plus it will attract new potential sponsor and developers for the new stadium.

at first shout its a bloody awful name but I will say this.....good pragmatic reaction from most fans on this forum and if it helps take the club forward through some yet to be understood agenda bloody good luck...NL... like everythng else.... needs to take its commercial chances...whatever is going on... I genuinely hope it works for you....

same club...same players...same fans....

I cannot say I am dead against a name change, but its the name I am not to keen on, Iam a believer in letting people make choices for themselves, have a competition choosing a new name then vote on say the top 5. it would have been the peoples choice then, and as everyone says its only a name so no one would feel agrieved or left out, not consulted etc.

Why dont we have some kind of competion on here and choose ourselves a nickname, and then msybe the fanzine could use the same name,Jack tars, Sailors, Pirates, shrimpers etc etc just something away from the obvious like the fleet.

have you lot not thought of forming your own team , a club thats still got something to do with Gravesend , expect someone has said something on here but so much to read . Your fan base is big enough to start something up surely . Hornchurch , Wombles , Telford have all done it whats stopping you lot doing this as well .
