AFC Dunstable 4 The 61 FC (Luton) 1

Recommended Posts

First of all congratulation to AFC Dunstable as this victory gives them the Division 2 title and well deserved it is to.

On to the game, the opening stages were fairly even, with perhaps AFC having slightly the better of things but you certainly wouldn't have been able to tell which team was battling for the championship. However when you are playing a team at the top, the last thing you need to do is gift them a goal-and that just what we did, a fairly innoculous ball in should have been cleared by either the defender or keeper, but after they both got in each others way the sole AFC Dunstable striker gleefully put the ball into the empty net.

We could have equalised straight away, a long cross was headed back across goal, with the keeper nowhere in sight and the ball beging to be put in The 61 strike force stood back and watched as the chance came and went!! We were punished soon after as to furious protests from the 61 bench for offside an AFC Dunstable striker was put through on goal, and with the keeper going down early he was given the easy chance of putting it into the net.

AFC were now on top with The 61 really struggling to make inroads into the home sides defence and whilst it stayed 2-0 until the break, AFC didn't take long to extend the lead in the second half, I was too busy trying to get my camera to work so missed the goal!

3 became 4 from the penalty spot, a poor challenge on the right of the box saw the ref rightly point to the spot, which was confortably scored.

After the fourth we did start having more of the ball, and should have had a penalty of our own when Gravestock was fouled but the ref waved on, near the end we did get on the scoresheet though when a good cross from the right saw Gravestock head home-a good goal but far to late.

Overall a diaspointing performance, a decent start was undone by poor defending but after that we just wasn't good enough, poor closing down particularly in midfield and a powder puff attack did little for our cause and AFC ran out deserved winners.
