Reserves v Ashford Town Reserves

Recommended Posts

Ok so the 1st team just failed to make the play offs, but lets get along to Hartsdown tonight to cheer on the Reserves who have won promotion in their first season. They are playing Ashford Town in the Floodlite Trophy. I can assure those of you who haven't seen them play there is usually plenty of action, loads of movement and plenty of pace in the team. Some of these lads will surely be the future of the club so would be great to see a good crowd tonight and for only £2 what more could you want!

First time for me at a Reserves match and what a good time it was.

The team played with passion and pride, very surprised with the high level of skill shown.

If this is the kind of football that they play week in, week out then I will go and watch many more games

So many highlights to mention but I am going for just two

Dan Butler making Ashfords keeper jump out of his skin whilst taking a goal kick and slicing the kick

Ashfords physio doing the weirdest dance/run off the pitch whilst the fans were giving him a little tune

Will let Taffy let you know how the game went

Because of distance, only seenreserves 3 times, but everytime the skill level is there, so they are certainly consistent, and a credit to club, fans, parents,M weatherley and above all themselves.

Think it was a floodlit troph game last night and we are fighting it out with Ramsgate for the title- we are 2 points behind with 2 games each to play ?

Fair play to there Physio I thought that was funny as f-ck he really enjoyed the batter with you lot behind the goal. I was in the stands and the physio family were sitting next to me in fits of laughter apart from the little girl who was crying because she thought you lot were having a go at her dad.

I'd like to see a friendly 1st team vs reserves sometime just to see how some of them cope.

On a windy, chilly evening at Hartsdown, the reserves came up against a hard working Ashford side who only had 10 players in all. Credit to them though they chased and harried Margate throughout the game and were a credit to their club. Special mention must go to their goalie who pulled off some great saves and took a lot of stick from us fans in good spirit. As Pagester has already pointed out the highlight of the game was when the Ashford physio/manager, who was a big lad, came onto the pitch along to a tune from the fans and proceeded to give us a wave and a dance, very funny!.

Anyway back to the game. In the 3rd minute the ball broke on the left side and Darryn Vanhinsberg ran onto but hit his shot wide. There was then a period where most of the play was centred in midfield and it wasn't until the 14th minute when Margate made their extra player tell. The ball was crossed over on the right by Dan Stokes and Shane Brown rose excellently to head the ball past the keeper into the left side of the net.

A minute later Ashford had by far their best chance of the match when their number 9 broke through the Margate defence well but, after doing the hard bit, but hit his shot wide when one to one with Damian Rowlands.

In the 28th minute Margate had a spate of corners which came to nothing the best of which saw Louis Smith head over the crossbar. Then in the 32nd minute Kiron Morris hit a lovely ball to Stokes on the right side but his cross was safely gathered by the Ashford goalie.

Margate then got their second goal when Vanhinsberg pushed the ball through to Brown on the left who put a cross over which fell to Karl Barron who took his time and placed the ball past the keeper into the left hand side. Four minutes later the ball was once again pushed through to Brown but his shot was well saved by the Ashford keeper.

In the 42nd minute Barron returned the compliment to Brown when he latched onto a through ball from Vanhinsberg and crossed to Brown who hit it into the net to make it 3-0. A minute later the hard working Morris nearly got on the score sheet when he did a great run to try and latch onto a Stokes cross from the right but just failed to get his foot to the ball. Then on the stroke of half time Barron once again broke clear but his attempted lob went hight over the bar.

In the second half Margate looked like they were starting to turn the screws on Ashford and it was no surprise when they went four up in the 52nd minute. A corner from the left was headed goalwards by Smith but the goalie pushed the ball away, Vanhinsberg latched onto it put over a cross which Alan Heath controlled and pushed back across goal to Vanhinsberg who hit a sweet left foot shot into the net.Two minutes later the score became 5-0 when a great through ball from Morris was seized upon by Barron who hit a great shot past the luckless keeper into the bottom right hand corner.

In the 59th minute Vanhinsberg once again put over a cross which Brown met but was well saved by the keeper who denied him his hat trick. Barron then had a chance for his hat trick but once again the Ashford keeper made a fine save. Barron then had a further chance to get his hat trick in the 75th minute after a good run but his final effort went just wide of the right post.

Margate continued to exert pressure but all credit to Ashford they worked hard to deny further goals. Brown had a further chance in the 82nd nminute but he miscued his shot wide when the goal was at his mercy with just the keeper to beat. Neil Hoggart then went on a great run and when his shot was well saved by the keeper the rebound fell to Brown who unluckily hit the left post. Then in the last minute Barron ran through onto a ball from Paul Axon but fired his shot over the bar.

Imo Morris once again worked hard in midfield and put in some crunching tackles, Vanhinsberg looked impressive on the left, Stokes supported the attack well on the right and Barron still finding the net which must bode well for the future of the club.

Good to see Louis Smith looking cam and collected at the back too not putting a foot wrong.

Team: Rowlands, Stokes, Harker, Heath, Smith, Weatherly, Stellon, Morris, Barron, Brown, Vanhinsberg. Subs used Hoggart (Weatherly), Axon (Stellon), Allen (Vanhinsberg) Subs not used Anderton, Mayhead

Well done to the reserves for the victory last night.

Does anyone know if the reserves are due to have any more home games this season? And if so when? I cannot see any listed on the Kent League website at the moment but I would like to come along if I can if should there be one.
