Success or Failure?

Considering the players we had signed on I must say "failure".There were positives there but overall its a "failure" for me". We could & should have won this title let alone get into the play-offs.A win here & there when the win was more than attainable.Together with some games where we lost the plot completely & we would have been celebrating right now!

Finishing 6th is not a bad season and when you look at the depth of our squad it is something that isn't as bad as what has been made out to be. I think we ALL set our expectations far too high for this season and yeah maybe the way things were going in January we should have won the league or finished in the top 3 at the very least.

I for one have enjoyed this season and next season is going to be just as good and we will have better success.

Well said nuttaboy, after last season this season to me has been much more positive. I realise we are all disappointed not reaching the play offs but I am looking at the overall picture too. Trotty signed some good players and, in my mind, probably would have made it but for the pitch problems in February which meant playing 2 games a week fopr about a month. Plus I am looking at how the Reserve team has progressed this season and the U 18's, so I believe quite a successful season compared to last few years.

"Here", "Here", "Nuttaboy".

Though i was not at the game, i have had several reports from people who's opinions i trust. If they are correct then again i am ashamed at the negative attitude of certain people, some of whom just follow the lead, others who should know better and others, so alcohol fueled, they need to look at there own problems.

We all become disillusioned with things at times, but "negativity" is not the way forward. "Negativity" is like Frowning, It uses a lot more effort to frown than to smile and it also becomes a habit that is hard to lose.

"This season is OVER", lessons will hopefully have been learnt and we can know look forward to a new season on a new pitch, with a new team.

With my rose-tinted glasses undoubtedly OFF, I would declare this season a failure. Granted, considering the position we were in last season, 6th seems like a good finish. However, as I have stated before, I feel that, with the squad we have, and the potential shown at times this season (let's be honest, some of our play has been superb on occasions), the playoffs was a minimum. Add the poor cup runs to the disappointment of not even achieving a playoff place, and I think, overall, it has been a failure.

Given the amount of Conference experience in our squad sixth is certainly a disappointment. The league was there for the taking this season. There are mitigating circumstances (injuries, suspensions, the number of postponements), but this was a missed opportunity. Hendon have become a difficult team to beat in recent months, but you have to say Saturday's performance was pretty limp.

RT "failed" in his bid to win promotion for MFC (one of his objectives) however....This time two years ago ? Remember ? I would have to say we have had "success". We have a great squad and the fan base has gone up. RT has been offered a new contract so has he failed....NO !

Mick, please give me a positive out of that performance

I'm positive their keeper handled the ball a couple of feet outside the area. Was standing looking down the line. Scotty was sent off twice in 2 much more dubious decisions than that one should have been.

Andy, I dont think Mick is saying there was positive things but surely some of the things being shouted at players can not help?

I too was very disappointed at their performance but you only had to look at most of the players faces after the game on Saturday to see they were gutted too with their performance. However I was very pleased to see the majority of our supporters clapping the lads into the dressing room.

It's easy to look back on the season and criticise, but after the disappointment of last season - I'd have said that to finish the season within a sniff of the playoffs was a success - especially with a rookie Manager.

It didn't help that, in January and February, we had those postponements as the inadequacy of the drainage of the pitch became evident - the toll of playing twice a week on those heavy pitches took it's burden on our depleted squad.

From an outsiders viewpoint, you have to think of the season as a failure. With a nucleus of a Conference side, who knew each other and played together, the league was there for the taking.

Next year will be more difficult, as your veterens become a year more "veteren", rather than more experienced.

I sorry you missed out, it would be good to see success around Kent again, but Maidstone and Bromley excepted, there isn't a huge amount to cheer about.

Good luck.

We failed to make the play offs, have good cup runs, but by god we had us a season. The first, I might say, since I have been following Margate, where we have gone in an upwards direction whilst playing some wonderful, memorable football.

I hate to sound preachy, but should sport be a little bit more than just success or failure? Or even a mixture of both, because without the losses, how would we know to feel happy with the gains?

I loved this season. So on the balance I end it happy.

We've had some fantastic highs and some lows, which you get anywhere. The final outcome is disappointing but I'm all for Trotty staying. On the back of a year's experience hopefully he knows what areas he can improve on. By listening to his interviews he knows and he's an honest guy. Think about Bromley away. What a night that was. Then we had the issues of the pitch that set us back a lot. Now that is being sorted in the summer we shouldn't have a repeat of that. I'm confident Trotty can improve on this season. Disappointing considering where we were earlier in the season, but with the right additions we can be better next year.

The keeper was a friendly guy, he said the ref had said to him that is was an unintentional hand ball!!!

He felt lucky to still be on
