Byron Walker

Take a look at these highlights from the Dover v Horsham YMCA game yesterday & tell me if you would have liked to have seen our players doing some of the following:

ATTACKING the ball rather waiting for it or allowing it to bounce(fatal errors).

ATTACKING & taking on defenders as BYRON WALKER does successfully in this match, several times(as he has done on numerous occasions previously).

RUNNING with the ball from midfield into the opponents half instead of stopping to play sideways & backwards passes of 1-10yards or so. This is DIRECT football at its best.

Getting men forward QUICKLY in numbers & into the opponents area. Fighting for everything. Defending in numbers.Giving their all for the club.

These are the kind of athletic youngsters we are desperately in need of to compliment the talent that we DO have here.

The players we have here now will prosper from players of the of like of WALKER & Danny Hockton in particular would prosper more than anyone else.

This was total commitment yesterday. Take a look! This is how it should be done l.m.o.

Sign this promising youngster Trotty!

Looking at that performance, the best two goals were scored by JON WALLIS. Great goals, great player. Ex-Gills, was at Hereford earlier this season and is non-contract at Dover. He's got everything we're looking for. Push the boat out for him. GO GET HIM TROTTY

Agree two crackers but my point was about the attacking, direct flair of Walker down that flank. In fact the whole team going forward. It wasnt JUST about the goals that I was highlighting Porka. If we could get those two at a fair price,or players similar to those, our supposed & rumoured "reduced" budget next season could STILL bring us rewards.

I think your missing the point we have young players who can do that given the freedom to play in that way.

we have'nt given them a long enough run of games or give them the freedom to play that way.

Trooty put them in for 20 mins hear and there and has'nt imo giving them a long enough run of games.

Look back at the threads earlier in the season and look how Smith was slated for a couple of performances. Now look at him after a run of 4 games I believe he is going to be around the first team for many years and can only get better.

Porka you say get rid of wisker , Standen, Possibly Bagley, Absolute sh1t these are Margates future and imo if given a run will never let the club down and will fight for Margate fc because they want too not just for money.

You all bang on about the game at Hendon and the players looking like they can't be bothered well these lads you want to get rid of would have gone out on Saturday if fit and given their all.

So what you bring in another couple of youngsters from Dover and make them play the same way as the team this year in and out of the team because first eleven should be good enough so thats Who he plays.

Lets not forget our reserves only lost 2-1 to dover a couple of weeks ago on that night (which I went to watch) Dover played 8 first teamers plus 1 trialist and Tom Hickman making up the team including I believe the players you have named above. So make your own conclusions from that. Imo if playing for M W in the reserves with a different system and given the freedom mentioned earlier we nearly turned them over with a bunch of u18s plus Bagley and Wisker from the first team.

Disappointing to see this we have the talent its about style of play, lets not forget that I agree with the above seem to do that a lot with BigTW but he is spot on with this our youngsters would be stunned to see this.

I did not see the Dover V Reserve game however from what I was told our youngsters played far better football than Dover, apparently their manager plays negatively, and there is your answer!!!!

I dont think that it is a coincidence that we seem to have a promising reserve side at Hartsdown. MW has performed miracles in one season, he has the club and the town in his blood, if things don't go well at the start of next season I dont think we need to look too far for a new management team !!

Yes Mark has done a good job but he has got the right tools to do the job in the players. mark has always given the lads a sence of belief in their own abilities and this is evident when you watch them play, He can also see the points within each player to make improvements.

But the players need to see their is a possible place to progress into a higher team weather that be Margate or any other good side upto the individual level.

Thats why we need to encourage these players not slag them off when it all goes pear shape.

Please sit back and think who got us in this possition this season and how many times the likes of Doulton, Wisker, Bagley,Smith.Allen and Robinson were given a chance to show what they could do to change it and if any of them let Margate down.

Now tell me these players were at fault for the final position we are in. The answer is no so why don't we get behind these lads before they all decide like Dolton. Williams. Robinson and Holden you aint worth playing for.

The reason for starting this thread up was mainly to highlight the attacking flair shown by Dover on Saturday, when it was needed. They havent always done it during the season but the direct approach & belief in their play looked superb to me. When I mentioned Byron Walker I was on the whole merely pointing out that we need some youth & pace in the team similar to his style of play & attitude. Not to get ALL players in like that as we also need those older more experienced & not so mobile heads in there too still. If it means it be youngsters from the reserves then thats fine by me.If they can do similar to what Walker was dishing out then great, bring em' in.

I cant see where anyone has blamed the reserves for our lack of honours though. Or have they & I missed it? Thats Trottys decision anyway not ours.

They do deserve a better run though I agree. One youngster from the reserves I think would do a similar job to that of Byron Walker is young Vansburg......? or whatever his name is. He is a very similar player to Walker & he is certainly one I would include in the first team,no matter what his age is! Pace & skill & unafraid to take on & run at defences.

Not sure I agree with you on that one, he needs more time in the reserve set up, he needs to get his head up more and see a pass early a number of times this year Players have been open but the lad does not see it but this will come in time, like wise Barron has done well but needs to learn to hold the play up again this will come. Axon is another good prospect for the same reasons he needs more time. We have the talent and the future is bright but we must progress youth at the corret speed Cookie.

The credit heaped on the reserve players is welldeserved, but there is a massive gap between reserve and first team -ryman -standard.

Hopefully next season with reserves up one div. the gap will e marginally smaller, but still a big gap.

You have to 'blood' one at a time maximum, and to be fair, Dolton and Robinson did have reasonable chances and did not make it(sometimes you are stronger second time around).

Smith looks like making it, but again, he has had alot o chances and still has a long way to go; but should come through.

One player from reserves is not too bad an achievementin first season.

Ideally you want three to come through-maybe next season-but the idea that there are 4/5/6 reserve players ready for ryman is way off the mark;despite their skills.

Again, there is a massive gap in standard.

Margate are no different to other clubs-you don't see 4/5/6 reserve players coming through at other clubs either.

Two/3 more making the grade next season and that will be a major success.
