Let the speculating begin...

Recommended Posts

Sheps have sponsored us before and were probably our best known/highest profile shirt sponsor prior to Austrian.

Sheps real ale is OK. The fizzy beer/lager is poor like most other fizzy stuff elsewhere.

At the Club agm Brian spoke of developments behind the scenes being ongoing regarding the ground and intimated that a move would still be a good few years away. Interestingly the announcement is of positive interest to the Youth and Ladies sections too so seems to be something very major at all levels of G&NFC.

Also the fact that the Club are consulting at all does hint at the matter being potentially controversial. If I remember correctly the last time any consultation took place was when the club proposed to leave the Southern League to join the Ryman.

Certain subjects can be ruled out because these would expect to be the decisions of directors eg change of manager, reverting to part-time, choice of sponsor etc and not require the blessing of the fans first.

Other topics would need not to compromise negotiations, such as the choice of a new ground. Also if a site was offered (and it is likely to be only one site not a choice) would the Club consult on this rather than simply announce where it was going to be situated?

I have some theories but I will keep them to myself.

For those of us who weren't there to recieve a leaflet, what did they say?

Consultation evening on Tuesday to start at 19:30 at the bar in the ground.

The Directors of the club would like to invite the fans and the members of the youth and ladies football sections to a public consultation evening. They have positive news which they would like to share with us and the meeting should last for about an hour.

Thats the gist.

I don't think it'll be a sponsorship deal unless it is an extremely good deal, worth more than we could ever speculate- When we got Austrian Airlines on board, it was a very good sponsorship deal with an international company, and it only merited a back page in the Reporter and a place on the club News Page, so unless it was a once-in-a-lifetime deal, I don't see why a sponsorship deal would get any more coverage than the AA deal did.

Which leads me to think it is something to do with the ground. 'Important' and 'positive' were the words used. What could be more important and positive than a sponsor? Maybe Liam signing on again? But is that really bigger news thah a sponsor? We haven't heard anything about the ground for months and the mystery of this announcement seems to add up to a new ground, and maybe a renaming, 'Ebbsfleet', which could be used for a new sponsorship deal?

Roll on Tuesday.

Positive and exciting? OK - a large company, lets call them 'Acme Inc.' want to heavily invest in the club, and provide funds for a new stadium. The catch being the team will have to change names to reflect this, so every Saturday you travel to Ebbsfleet (as I cant see the new ground being anywhere else) down to the Acme Stadium of Dreams to watch Acme Fleet playing. Acceptable so far?

But also, as part of the deal, Acme have negotiated with the current land owners of Stonebridge road to redevelop the area meaning Fleet have to move out immediately and ground share for upto 2 years while the stadium is created - still happy?

As the title says - purely speculation, but I can't see any other reason why the club would want to consult with the fans if a name change didnt come into things

I think the key word is consult.

The only thing that I can think of that would require consultion would be changing the name of the club, because this would mean that the company would change it's name as well, and this needs to be approved by the shareholders at an AGM or EGM.

If as Richard C says he owns the company Ebbsfleet FC Ltd, then there may be a hitch, but I hope that the board have at least done some reasearch before they put this daft notion before the shareholders.
