Didn't see the match live tonight, avoided hearing the score on radio and waited until I'd finished my shift a t work and watched highlightes courtesy of BBC.

On the face opf it a poor result and performance. So how important or un-important is the result tonight? Is Becks right to critisise fans for booing at the end, or are the fans justified after weighing out £25 on a ticket?

Personally I can't see how playing a whole team of yongsters benefits anyone, although saying that Sven does have problems at club level.

Personally if we are going to have international friendlies, I would love to see the re-iintroduction of the old 'Home-Internationals'.

Agree with you on that one. That's why then need spicing up a bit. I'd defenately look forward to the prospect of England taking on Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland though.

Bring back the home international as MoK says. Bring the Republic of Ireland into it as well. Something to play for.

An all-out match of passion between England and Scotland, and all the banter/excitement for fans... or watching England B huff and puff against Australia, Burkina Faso or the Planet Neptune...?

Cracking idea!! The Five nations for football!!
`Unlike the rugby we can keep the French & Italians out of it......well, gives us a better chance to win doesn't it?!
Government don't like the inevitable England/Scotland violence too much though do they??

Well, now they've got tanks on the streets and set a precedent, there's no reason they couldn't station a couple of brigades of heavy armour outside an England-Scotland match...

Although the Scots would probably bounce up and down on the gun barrel until it collapsed...

For that, you have to 'thank' Clockwatch Fergie & [****!!****] Wenger.

Pretty ironic that the press made so much fuss about appointing a Swede as England manager but the side is picked by a drunken Scot in Manchester!

As for Beckham, whoever heard of a captain of any team only playing for half a match, perhaps someone should show him some videos of Terry Butcher, Stuart Pearce or Emlyn Hughes.

If any of the players don't want to play for England then they should bugger off and make way for those that do.

Good postings about 'Five Nation's of Football' - be more exciting than pointless matches we have to endure now. Games against Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland would be very interesting.

As for Becks, he ain't my idea of a captain either. Sometimes I see him and think that he's the right man for the job other times I think he lacks leadership altogether. But who else is there though?

These home internationals used to be a great opportunity for the schoolkids to get to see internationals as well, as tickets were generally available for all but the Scotland game.

Usually the games were played in a good atmosphere as a result as well.

I remember sitting there before the 1978 World Cup (I think) watching a game against Wales, and the banter that went on in the crod was great - in particular a nice friendly song aimed at a certain Ally Mcleod (for those too young to remember, the Scottish manager at the time)

I agree that bringing back games with some meaning can only improve on meaningless uncompetitive friendlies.

As for the result and performance in the Australia game - you only have to look at pre season friendlies between lower league/ non league clubs, and higher level clubs - how ofte does the higher level club fail to win those games??
