Player Retirement

This Saturday will see the end of a long career from one of our current players. Rebels striker Steve Hale will be donning his boots for the last time in the Rebels match at Hampton & Richmond.

Despite not perhaps finding his feet during his two spells with the Rebels, Steve has turned out for many of the local sides in the area, including, Northwood, Hemel Hempstead, Ruislip Manor, Uxbridge, Maidenhead, Brook House amongst others and has won over many of the supporters at each of the clubs he has been involved in due to the nature of his personality. His goalscoring exploits whilst playing alongside Lawrence Yaku at Northwood in the earlier 2000's prompted his move to Slough.

I'm sure I'll be the first of many, but best of luck to Steve for his non-playing career and I know he's planning on enjoying a drink on Saturday after the game and at the presentation evening.

Just to echo Gary's sentiments... I wasn't around at the time of Hale's first appearance but during this stint I've chatted with him a few times either at training or on a matchday and he's one of the nicest blokes anyone could wish to meet.

He was also one of the few lads who turned out for the salsa night - all of those who strutted their stuff will live long in my memory...

Best of luck for the future...although i have a sneaking suspicion he may well be helping out at STFC next season, provided there's a budget to help out with.

Haley is a top bloke and has always given his all for the Rebels. Poorly treated by a certain Mr Browne, I hope he is still involved with the club next season even if it is in a non playing capacity. Wouldn't it be a great way to sign off if he could get a goal at the Beveree...

Having seen a lot of his career I would say he was a good "second rung" striker. In the pantheon of past Slough strikes unfortunately,he would be way way down the list.A list headed by the great John Ritchie( who played for Arsenal in the early 70's)so you can see my point.

I noticed Gary Abbot is still going at 42! I think there's a benefit match for him soon - one of the best strikers we've had since I've been watching the Rebels.

Yes a truely great striker whose probable best years were at Enfield.

There was an article in the programme about him the other week and talk of his benefit match. It gave out his mobile number and I sent him a text to try and tap him up for the Rebels. He never came back to me though....
