Charlie Macdonald II

Recommended Posts

If rumours are to be believed, the 'Fleet will have to manage next season without top goal scorer Charlie Macdonald?

If those rumours turn out to be correct he could well be heading for Leyton Orient, Gillingham or one of numerous other clubs.

If true and until I read it in black and white I won't believe it, Liam Daish will I am sure be doing his utmost to bring-in a replacement capable of scoring 20+ goals during a season.

All this has however has set me thinking:-

(1)What would happened this season if Charlie had not been around?

(2)What would the season have been like?

(3)Where would we have finished in the league? etc.etc.

By removing all of Charlie's goals from the stats, with the exception of the penalties (someone else would have taken them and probably scored?), surprisingly the season would not have been as bad as you would first imagine:-

P - 45

W - 17

D - 10

L - 18

F - 43

A - 54

PTS - 61

Position with one game left = 11th. (One place below Kidderminster and one above Northwich Victoria)

Before this season started most with have grabbed 11th. place with both hands!

Yes, I know its highly hypothetical and yes I know the fact that Macdonald wasn't there might well have meant that someone else would have scored. But I think it is interesting that whilst Macdonald has been very high profile, for all the right reasons, his influence has not been as important as one might first think.

So if Charlie does decide the grass is greener elsewhere, it may not all be doom and gloom for next season, and who knows Daish just might bring someone in who is able to score even more than Charlie?

That is surprising. If someone had said that to me without showing me the stats, I'd've said we'd have been much further down!
