Will he stay or will he go?

I'm unsure of the legal niceties of footballers contracts, but I assume that the day after Charlie's Fleet contract expires, we will no longer pay him.

Unless he has no outgoings, or has a bucketful of savings, he will very quickly come to need a wage.

Have the club entered negotiations with Charlie for a new improved contract, with a clause that the club will not stand in his way should a reasonable offer come in during the summer tranfer window?

This will of course be of benefit to both Fleet and Charlie as we could then ask a realistic signing on fee, and Charlie continues to be paid during the summer.

The club may be holding out on ANY new contracts , subject to completing a new sponsorship deal.

To my mind, this would appear a risky way of moving on, and would definately be contrary to the normal fleet way of doing things.

Of course, a deal might have already be done between Charlie and another club, but I would like to think there exists a little loyalty to a club that not only signed him despite his reputation for being injury prone, but also gave him a new contract last summer even after his injuries last winter.

Now now, lets not get bitter. If my memory serves me correct charlie signed a new deal in jan 2006, which means he signed it before his injury. although we dont want to lose him we should be pleased at what his done for this club it bodes well to know that we have helped him fulfil his ambition of league football again. As for loyalty, there is no such thing, if charlie had scored 5 goals all season do you think the club would want him to stay i dont think so. look what happened to craig holloway, got injured and doesnt get a contract. loyalty should work both ways but in this day an age it doesnt.

Personally, I think he's repaid that loyalty in spades by his 100% commitment, workrate and professionalism whenever he puts on a Fleet shjirt. OK, you could argue that it's the least he can do as a professional footballer, but he's never let us down, in marked contrast to the likes of Clayton Donaldson who went somewhat off the boil after signing a pre-contract at Hibs.

The 30 odd goals didn't hurt either lol

Thanks Charlie for your time here, whether it be ending soon or not, you made my season for sure
