we all know that the higher echelons of non league football are full of former ESL teams but with ilford returning next season im trying to recall other clubs who have went up only to return to the ESL, apart from basildon i cant recall any others,are basildon and ilford the only two?

Romford of course, but that was of our own volition, as opposed to relegation and so did Saffron Walden and Woodford in around about ways.

Basildon United decided to revert back to the Essex Senior League due to the re-structuring of the Isthmian in the early 90's, which would have meant excessive travel costs. So they too were not relegated back.

Small one wouldnt if aveley come down the ryman league would look to keep ilford or even offer another promotion spot to keep the number of teams in the league the same.

the reason i heard aveley want to come down is because of a restructure at step 4 which means they need to lose a team AS WELL as the relegated team (as the relegated team will be replaced by brentwood). aveley was closest to the dartford tunnel so apparently they have been chosen to shift sideways to the ryman league south which they do not want to do. so next best thing is joining ESL. i think tilbury were in the reckoning as well bt aveley is closer.

There could be an overspill from the Spartan League too. With only one to go up from the Prem and about four to come down from Step 4. Then again, we are reaching the silly season, so rumours will abound from now until the end of July when the fixtures surface.

yes before the last 2 seasons we have speculated and speculated but there is always some shock to come. i.e. the urchins last season and beaumont this season.

 

ideally we could have ilford, aveley, white ensign, tiptree, saffron walden et al make it a 22 team league with 2 going up, one for title one from 4 team playoff and we are away. dreams dreams

I know u are surmising, but I think SW would rather go intermediate than return with us. What about Stanway Rovers, plus, didn't Witham talk about coming back?

Also, I heard on Saturday that White Notley are applying for lights too. A few bob being pumped in there apparently. Good set-up too. Has anyone been?

coup I have always wondered about WHite Notley, they have some form of a stand don't they?

 

I can't see Ensign coming up, due to the council ground problem.

 

But if the Ridgeons side entered Saffron Walden, Stanway, Clacton, Harwich maybe, Tiptree etc then we would have a really strong league and the FA probably wouldn't cut this league during Step 5 restructuring. However, I doubt it will ever happen.
