Stewarding Issues

I fully support the ejection of our supporter. He was an embarresment to our club. It is the attitude of stewards at this level that I object to.

I see that you have had a similar experience at Rushden as we have!

If you don't want mobile phone/cameras/videos taken inside your ground then please put a sign up saying so; and, please, educate your stewards regarding the law!

We have photos of the incident. Once they've been uploaded you'll see the culpit. I'm sure he's the guy your fellow supporters describe above.

Although the no alcohol in sight of the pitch rule is probably there to combat potential lager louts (and I have seen stewards stop people from approaching the terraces carrying lager bought from the Club bar), I think that it sets a dangerous precedent to allow some people to drink alcohol and to deny this opportunity to others.

I recall that the senior citizen supporter in question certainly used to have brandy in his hip flask which he would ceremoniously drink when the Fleet scored (and probably on other occasions too) and that this practice went on at least as far back as the Ryman days. But however long he has been doing this misses the point. The no alcohol rule has been introduced for good reason to prevent fuelling trouble inside of football grounds. Times change. People used to be able to drink and drive without facing penalties regardless of the carnage this caused. Society cannot make exceptions in a driving context to accommodate people who have a tradition of drinking and exempt them simply because of their age. And similarly I can't see making exemptions for people in a football ground will help the job of stewards or Clubs such as G&N when faced with health and safety issues, which if ignored or breached could lead to the closure of all or part of the ground. And to claim that it is in some way a violation of freedom of speech to drink when and where you like is ludicrous. Unfortunately for the bloke in question, he will simply have to wait 45 minutes like everyone else who need or want to have a drink while the game is in progress.

I sound like I'm a massive fan of our stewards

I'M NOT HONEST!

I don't like the "Stand on the yellow lines and die the death of a thousand lashes" either!

BUT

It may interest you to know that our stewards are (in football terms anyway,) are well respected in the local area. When I went to the Grays/Halifax play-off game last year I was shocked to see how many of our stewards were also working over there too and apparently are in demand due to the qualifications (in the football field) by a fair few clubs.

Another sign is the fact that our Chief Stewards are constantly being head-hunted by league clubs.

Its about time some of you bleaters started to realise what a good job the majority of the staff do for the club.

"All our stewards"? I therefore look forward to you being the first to apply. Then wait for the flak, because no matter how well you think you are trained some people ( does that ring a bell?) are never going to be satisfied.

I think we should keep all the stewards we have.

They continue give us guys endless amusement with their totally unrealistic approach to looking after a non-league game and over-officious actions towards the little kids who dare to put their feet over the yellow line !

We have special names for them all based on the old Zed CARS program.

The cropped haired younger one is called Zed victor one (because he looks to be in charge and looks more hard than the rest) and the fat untidy one who looks like he needs a good wash is zed victor two and so on. We love them all

We especially like it when they all start suddenly moving around with menace and talking seriously into their mouth pieces. We keep looking around expecting to see the ICF or the Chelsea Head Hunters bursting through the gates... but no nothing. What do they see that stirs them into action ? Who knows but its superb theater.. better than the game often!

So leave them all alone - they are superb.

Stewards are great !

At Brentford we have new ones each week, and try the same old jokes....

I usually try to frisk them as I enter the ground, and then run down the stairs to one of them protecting the pitch, then give him or her a hi-5 when I get close.

Names like the Fonz, The Hobbit, Haiwaitha and Baldie Head are common...

and they always have numbers these days.....no.80 come in your time is up !

ALL of them? You've done an in-depth study of all their strengths and weaknesses then...?

To advocate getting rid of all of our current stewards is an over the top, one size fits all, sweeping generalisation. There is a hint of some personal baggage here from Mr Tooth. Why not be more constructive and apply to become a steward yourself?
