Northwich Game

A vast improvement on Saturday and for once we played football from the word go.

Also I thought, again after Saturday, the gate was relatively good, and I saw a fair few of those free coupons being filled in as I arrived. Hopefully now we've showed them what we can do they just might come back.

Brilliant night all together. Topped with a bit of the loved banter (and it was banter, before anyone asks...!) You just cant beat that football feeling.

Roll on St. Albans

Agreed, Ian. Team selection and formation was all important, too.

Playing Ricketts in the holding role (as he did so well v Oxford) made a huge difference. For a change we had a really pacy, mobile and athletic midfield, and with Moore pulling the strings behind Chukka and Charlie, we always looked likely to score.

Big well done to Liam and the boys. Keep it going on Saturday.

Something I noticed and forgot to add!

Yeh was a bit suprised if nothing else when I saw three strikers on the pitch, but obviously, as you say, Moore was slightly behing Char and Chuk, well instructed by the looks of it, and I felt joined the midfield and the forwards together. Also I noticed (and correct me if I'm wrong) Moore's first 90 minutes this season, which says a lot of things in itself.

Liam and the team obviously did their homework before tonight (and to be fair so he should have, seeing as this is the third meet of the season) and all credit to them for picking the right players and formation suited to beat the opposition team. Well done.

One last word. Keelo was absolutely top class tonight and in my book just beat Super Mac (who is now only 3 behind Benson for the golden boot award) for MOM, but in all honesty everyone had a superb perfomance.

Maybe one more last word. A Well Done to Lance because he had a bad match on Saturday by his standard, and to pick himself up like that is extraordinary - what a save from that deflected shot too!

This isn't really a good thing - do we really want Benson to NEED to score against us on the last day to win the Golden Boot?

I thought we were solid rather than spectacular tonight - no-one player stood out above anyone else in my view - Yes, Charlie got the all important 1st goal, and, as always, made penalty takng look easy (Does he ever miss Perhaps England should hire him for the next tournament finals to do a bit of coaching!). A shame that the keeper made a really good save late on to stop him getting his hatrick. But Lance made 2 or 3 really good saves, Ross had a very confident 1st game back, Luke slotted in well in his different role (and took his goal well) and everyone else did their bit.

We got that much needed bit of luck early on as well, when they hit the post and the ball bounced out - had that gon in the whole game probably would ave been very different.

Great that we're still in their pitching - it wll feel slightly disappointing if we do miss out, but credit to the lads for bouncing bac again tonight (& credit to LIam for having the courage to change things round as well)

Does it include the FA Trophy?

Benson's scored 2 in that whereas Charlie's scored 1

The BBC certainly hasn't added Charlie's FAT goal, but has it added Bensons?

Confguides system doesn't seem to be counting FAT, and shows Charlie as being 2 behind.

I'm confused...!

Thought Luke had a very good game tonight and played a lot of nice stuff. Maybe just behind the front two is a better position for him. He seems better able to influence a game playing further back rather than as an out and out striker.

Was a good effort all round tonight... From Liam's decision to start with 3 strikers, to the team responding so well after Saturdays disappointment (both in their own performance, and in the reaction of fans), to the crowd for getting behind them from the kick-off, and for there being so many turn up! Yes, I know many were only there cos it was a freebie after Saturday - but I 'donated' my ticket to my son, and paid my £12 - and was surprised to see how many others were in the queue to pay also.

I think Charlie had one of his best games I have seen. He took his goal and the penalty very well, but what impressed me more was the amount of times he fought to stay on his feet as he was being tackled, and also the completely unselfish way he released the ball for others to use - the pass to Moore for the goal was superb!

Good to see Cronin was back to the form that got him selected for England - no sign of nerves after Saturday at all.

All in all, a reminder of how good Fleet can be - and why they are where they are in the table

Much better performance than of late, but i did get the "here we go again feeling when they hit the post and chukki put one wide after their "fat" keeper and a defender had an mix up, but we got better as the game went on and think 3-0 was a fair reflection. Northwich did have a bit of an end of season resignation about them, so I dont expect them to do us any favours in the last couple of games.

Great performance from Mark Ricketts, controlled the midfield for long periods, long may it continue !!

Fingers crossed that we have something to play for at dagenham. Anyone fancy dressing as a sheep, as a parting gesture to a certain mr Roberts ?????

After a storming performance like that, it does beg the question why did it take Liam 40 odd games to leave Quinny out?
Ricketts did the "dirty" holding job, Long was the playmaker, Moore linked midfield with attack, and with both wide men pressing on effectively, we looked like what we should be - a top 4 side.
Bit mystified over the last 2 substitutions, though. I presume LD wanted to keep McCarthy fresh, but bringing Coleman on in the 91st minute???????

Perhaps he sees something differently from you?

I often wonder why we go through this Gary. Not just me and you but everybody. Like I've said before I feel that Quinn may not be good enough for this level but I find it fairly easy to go from one match inquest to the next with out saying things like "it does beg the question why did it take Liam 40 odd games to leave Quinny out?" we know you don't like Rob Quinn, you can drop it now.

People that can't drive often get criticised and told they shouldn't criticise other drivers for their driving. Perhaps people who are not football managers...

I agree with all the comments about Ricketts, would have had him as my MOM, almost as good a performance from him as the Oxford game. Was Quinn dropped, rested or injured. Also agree about the comments about Cronin, the same lads who were slagging him on saturday were singing his name last night. some people are very fickle.

Looking forward to the game against St Albans, a win, the teams around us dropping points and we can go into the final weekend of the season playing for something.

To be honest, if we had been offered a top ten finish before the season, how many of us would've taken it, I know I would. With two games to go we've had a great season....
