Reserves V Faversham Town Reserves

Get yourself along to Hartsdown tomorrow night when the Reserves play Faversham Town Reserves in the League. Am led to believe some of the first team squad who didn't get a game recently will be playing like Dan Wisker, Nick Bagley and Lee Protheroe. Also in Faversham team should be Luke Williams, Ian Pullman & Wes Hammond. Should be a cracking game so lets have some support to for the lads. Best £2 you can spend believe me.

The problem Heath and Stokes have got is we have Trott Sappleton smith Oats Donavan all in front of them so they have got their work cut out to displace any of them.

Also Pratt and Barron have to be better than we've got (Hockton Pinns Rob and Bagley) although they are good at reserve level its a big jump to first team. I would rather see them signed and go out on loan to a Kent side like Luke willams has and bring them through slowly.

Otherwise we will have the same problem we have had with Dolton, Scott holden and others no good taking them up to sit on the bench when they could be getting 90 mins somewhere else and gaining valuable experiance. Imo

Kenny Pratt needs to get over his injuries. Also some of the youngsters need to get down the gym and bulk up. As for Bagley, he needs to look at his attitude.

The problem with the youngsters warming the bench could easily be solved by rotating. there are enough of them in the reserves/u18' good enough to do that now.

Come on "Trotty" come down and look.

On a night that became chillier as the game progressed, a young Margate Reserves came up against a much older, experienced Faversham Town Reserves side.

It was obvious from the start that Faversham were trying to outmuscle the Margate youngsters. However this did not deter them and as early as the 2nd minute Dan Wisker had a header from a Darryn Vanhinsberg corner but the ball fell into the arms of the Faversham keeper. Two minutes later Karl Barron had a great chance but his header went wide right when connecting to a Vanhinsberg free kick. Nick Bagley then hit a great free kick in the 9th minute but his shot was tipped over the bar by the keeper.

Faversham then had a chance to take the lead when a backheader from the Margate defence fell short and their centre forward got to the ball but his shot was saved by Damian Rowlands. In the 20th minute a through ball from Wisker found Vanhinsberg but his shot flew over the crossbar. Two minutes later Jamie Stellon also had a chance but his shot was hit straight at the keeper. Five minutes later with the ball bouncing around the Faversham area like a pin ball machine Alan Heath hit a low shot to the right but the Faversham keeper made a fine save.

Then on the half hour in a great move started by a Rowlands kick, the ball was headed onto Bagley by Wisker, who then flicked it over the head of the goalie to Stellon on the right who hit a great cross back to Bagley who then hit his volley wide of the right post. However in the 37th minute Bagley broke through, rounded the keeper and slid the ball goalwards, it then looked like a defender might clear it off the line but Karl Barron followed through and poked the ball over the line keeping up his goal scoring spree.

This lead was short lived as the defence failed to clear the ball quickly trying to play out of defence and gave away an unecessary corner. From this Faversham equalised with a powerful header into the net, so the teams went in level at the half time break.

From the kick off in the second half, Bagley had a run but pushed his shot wide of the left post. Five minutes later Vanhinsberg went on a run and his resulting cross just shaved the crossbar.

Faversham then took an undeserved lead in the 52nd minute when from a harmless freekick Rowlands failed to catch it properly and dropped it over his line. This spurred Margate back into life and in the 60th Vanhinsberg hit a free kick on the right into the penalty area and with Donovan bearing down on the keeper the ball went straight past him into the net for the equaliser.

Paul Axon then came on for Vanhinsberg and a few minutes later a ball from him was pushed through to Bagley who lobbed the ball past the oncoming keeper into the net but was given dubiously offside. Barron was then subbed by Chris Lewis but the last chance of the match fell in the final minute to Faversham when a great shot was heading goalwards but Rowlands made up for his earlier mistake making a tremendous save low to his left hand post, leaving the score 2-2 at the end of the match.

Team: Rowlands, Stokes, Allen, Heath, Donovan, Wisker, Stellon, Morris, Barron, Bagley, Vanhinsberg. Subs: Weatherley, Lewis, Axon, Anderton, Harker, Cowell

Attendance was 87

Not a bad game, thought right back had a good game, not so the left back to be fair, the keeper made two mistakes that cost the game in my opinion. Our goals were ok good work by Bagley should have scored; Barron pounced on a goal line clearance to score, second goal fortunate.

Difficult to expect fringe players to perform without continuous football, likewise the reserves can lose their continuity when fringe players appear.

Shame though cannot win the league now!

Looks like Pratt will be back this week, good news, all in all some good players on show, Barron worked hard did not get a lot, Heath seemed hesitant last night, Whisker needs to play more games likewise Bagley, or maybe he would benefit from a higher work rate.

May be that’s not fair to him really he has so much skill but seems to limit it? I agree with the comments about the eighteens I would say there are times they need to get their head up but that will come the potential is clearly there.
