The Urchins Colts beat Waltham Abbey, the League Leaders, by 2-1 on a balmy evening at the Stadium today, the kick off being at 6pm, and played in front of a reasonable sized crowd.

It was quite clear, from the off, why the Abbey were at the top, as they were very strong and resolute as such. But our lads competed for every ball in a very competitive opening salvo that saw Perry Burns threatening to make headway on the Urchins right flank.

It was a ball to the right that produced the first goal in the 30th minute, Chow Sandhu, always a threat, gained a few yards, pulled the ball down, and slotted into the far corner, a quality goal from a quality player

The keeper, Dan, has been a revelation all season and when the Abbey broke through on their left in the 35th minute, he brought off a quality save, this was followed in the 40th minute when a move involving our midfield dynamos, Michael Ramkin, Joe Stanton and my Man of the match, Luke Stanley, nearly brought the second.

The early part of the second half was fairly innocuous, with the Urchins content to hold onto their lead, however Chow Sandhu went close in the 70th minute, but then the game took a big turn. Another great Urchins move and a goalmouth collision ended with the Abbey keeper left out cold.

The game was halted for a full ten minutes, and quite rightly so, I can report that after attention, Steve, the visitors' custodian, is fine and fully recovered.

After that, the flow opened up a bit and from a Michael Ramkin pass, Alex Ievoli slotted home in the 82nd minute. Abbey pulled one back soon after but it was the Urchins' day.

A big well done to Tony Ievoli and his lads, and the league title is still there for the taking.

Well done to our lads, and a big compliment to the visiting contingent, very sporting, and all in all, a great evening's entertainment.
