Lord Lippy Is Leaving Us

Recommended Posts

People talk about consistancy.... Now let me think of some examples....

Going back a bit here:

Mitchell, ace step up his assistant Ketteridge, not so good - Clean Sweep Cockram - good again

Randall was Cockers assistant and he were pretty poor, i won't mention the Neighbour clean sweep but when we clean swept him out Hill did the biz

Another clean sweep with Dowie and we were doing the biz, Mudd from the reserves, sadly as he is one man I would have loved to see succeed, didn't keep it going

More recently Roberts and Cook, good - then Cook, not so good then Cook's assistant Castle - disaster

And then the current chapter begun...

So history is against St Albans City when it comes to consistancy....

I wouldn't begrudge Roddis a crack but next season is very very important, look at any conference table from day 1 and it's full of team residing in the 'where are they now' file, I'm not saying we'd be the same but we need a very good season next year to keep the intrest going.

I previously mentioned the contracts players are on, this club won't survive if we're knocking around 14th place back on crowds of 350, we need to be top 3/4 from the off and hope we can keep 700/800 coming through the gate with a winning team, that's the only reason I think an established manager should be found..

Onto the current squad and with the exceptions of who we know is going and who should be staying then our current best XI with Martin for Ben Lewis, Watters for Walshe and Archer for Hakim is pretty much the best side we could have put out for a majority of last season

GK - Bastock

DR - Seeby

DL - Cousins

DC - B Martin

DC - Elphick

MR - Hann

ML - Watters

MC- Marwa

MC - Davis

FC - Clarke

FC - Archer

Lets just hope people don't want to go or the form lost by some this season has damaged them long term...

So you're leaving Dean 'Jacobs Cream' Cracknell on the bench, with Ricky Perks as GK sub, presumably, EFMTFTV.

From his matchday programme notes last Saturday, Gibbo sees all 9 contracted players at the club at the start of the season. [Let's just set the financial position on one side, or it gets very complicated], although his notes were written before Colin Lippiatt announced his departure. We all know that new managers, particularly new brooms, want their own players in.

I've more than one question mark there, and much as I hope to be wrong, your suggestion of attendances of 7/800 seems wildly, hugely optimistic to me.

It's going to be an interesting few months.

I reckon you'll get around 600 to 700 if you're near the top. Depends on admission prices next season as well.

I did originally go for 6/700 wink

We started to get near that towards the end of the conf south season, we've picked up a few this season, I know we've been back down to 600 recently but I put that down to our form.

If we play well, winning they will come (hopefully)

I did have Crackers on the bench and Perks, the only player unaccounted for was Faly Basse who may be about to sign a 5 year bumper deal with us for all I know

But as a great man once said "I know nothing about football"

You have missed out the most important player of all, a holding midfield player. Lopez hasn't had a bad game for us yet and would do a fantastic job for us in the Conference South.

I also agree with you about the crowds. All this talk about 300 and 400 gates is total bo.lox. We have gained a lot of new supporters this season, especially youngsters(and I don't mean the chavs). When you go 14 odd games without winning, it doesn't matter what league you are in, the gates are going to dwindle. We have the nucleus of a very good team here and not so much different from the end of the 2005/6 season team. With one or two additions in the right places and with the right manager we can do very well next term. Winning games puts b.ms on seats and with a nice little start to the season, 600-700 plus is easily achievable.

That joke [AFF's four-off-the-top scenario] will be known only to a few on here, Rob, and in order that there is no misunderstanding, I ought to repeat it:

Gibbo walks into the office at t'Park and says to the chap who used to drive the red tractor "We need a new Manager, Mr Secretary. Prepare an advert for the NLP. 'Ambitious Conference South club requires manager for 06/07. Unlimited earning potential. UEFA 'A' badge not required. Experience an advantage etc. etc.' Please."

Two days later, the Chairman telephones the club. "How many applicants, Eamsie?". "50", replies the chap who etc. "Champion," responds Gibbo, "I'll be in tomorrow morning".

The next day, the Chairman walks in to the office and the Secretary is sitting with a pile of applications on his desk. "35 more, JG, and that makes 85 in total, or thereabouts."

"Hmmnnn. I can't cope with 85," says the Chairman. "Put them in a pile, throw the top 80 in the bin and get the remaining 5 in for interview. Please."

"B-b-b-but suppose the best qualified applicant is among the 80 that I arbitrarily throw in the bin, Mr Chairman?", he cries in a state of extreme consternataion.

"We don't employ unlucky people at The Mighty Saints", says the Chairman.

;0)

[Who's Sarah Beeny, by the way?]

I just had a look on google for Nick Roddis and it confirmed he is the one and same Nick "Noodles" Roddis that used to go to my Uni.

Not sure what significance this ha, but thought I had better declare an interest....
If he is an excellent coach, knows the players and shows great passion, I am not sure why he shouldnt have the job...

It is a shame to see LL leave the Clarence Park. He’s a great manager and a really nice bloke. In my short spell with the club he was the friendliest person I met. Even after unlucky defeats or dreadful refereeing decisions he had the courtesy of being sociable with opposition directors and match officials.

Good luck Colin (except when Woking play YCFC if we remain in the Conference next season) I’m sure you will offer inspiration for the Cards to get up the table in 2007/08
