Margate Reserves ensured a good day all round day for the Blues when they got a hard earned 1-0 Victory at a warm Hartsdown Park this afternoon. As early as the 2nd minute Alan Heath rose to a corner from Darryn Vanhinsberg and headed just over the bar. Ten minutes later, after a run by Jamie Stellon who pushed the ball across the goal area where the Hythe keeper fumbled but just hung onto ball with Chris Lewis advancing on him. Then on 21 minutes Margate were awarded a free kick on the left edge of the area which Heath hit superbly but was denied a goal when the Hythe keeper flung himself to his left to keep the ball out. From the ensuing corner Heath again got his head to it but missed past the left post. In the 31st minute Margate were denied a pentalty when Vanhinsberg broke clear and looked to be brought down by the keeper but the ref waved play on. The last chance of the first half fell once again to Heath but his header also was directed just over the bar from a Vanhinsberg corner.

The 2nd half was 5 minutes old when Danny Allen went on a fine run on the left, threadeda ball thro to Lewis who in turn found Karl Barron then onto Kiron Morris who hit his shot wide of the right post under a challenge from a Hythe defender. A minute later Heath went on a run and found Stellon but his shot was hit straight at keeper. Hythe then had their best chance of the match when a mistake in defence put in Hythe on the right but the cross met by their number 9 was hit high over the bar. In the 72nd minute Vanhinsberg drilled a low shot just wide of right post. Then 3 minutes later Margatefinally tooka deserved lead when Karl Barron latched onto a cross outside the area and turning, hit a right foot volley into the top left hand corner ( can only think this skill was taught to him by his Dad? ;)). Nathan Jeavons then saved Margate 5 minutes later making a fine save down near his right hand post and three minutes later saving again from the Hythe number 9. Margate then had three further chances from Vanhinsberg who turned to his left but hit his shot at the keeper, Barron who headed a cross over the bar and Vanhinsberg again who hit his shot which the keeper spilled but gathered at 2nd attempt.

Not one of their more fluent performances today but still deserved to win against a hard working Hythe side. Alan Heath was my MOM as was immaculate throughtout with young Darryn Vanhinsberg impressing once again. Dan Stokes at right back also linked well with the forwards from defence.
