The 61 FC 3-1 Loughton Orient

My first ever SSML game (and also my first game as a neutral this season apart from scouting missions for Hendon) saw me make the five minute walk to 61 FC's ground at Kingsway Rec in Luton. Ground standards in SSML Div Two are a little different to the Ryman Premier

 

61FC took the lead early on and I did wonder whether it was going to be a tad one sided. But it wasn't to be. Loughton equalised after about 35 minutes but gave away a silly penalty 5 minutes later which 61FC converted.

 

Second half was pretty even, possibly Loughton had more possession but neither keeper was really tested. The third goal for 61FC came with about 7 or 8 minutes to go.

 

Thoroughly enjoyed the game - nice to know that there's local football a short walk away if Hendon aren't playing.

Ground standards for Division 2 are also a bit different from the Premier Division as well!! There are a few SSML clubs near by but you are more than welcome to pop down to The 61 whenever you can mate.

Is this the same 61 club that stared in that year in the luton and district league ?

Yes, the one and same.

Used to play against them many times for Dunstable albion, we started out at the same time having been Victoria street methodists team in Dunstable.

You would have probably come up against The 61 FC's current manager , Richard Everitt, who played for the club back then. I have a few match reports from back in that period, I will have to look them up.

I remember his name, we played at Leagrave park in those early days

We used to phone in the results to get them in the green un on saturday evening.

The 61 FC's third XI still play in the Luton District & South Beds League, but its nowhere near the strength it used to be.

 

I take it that the green un came out on a Saturday night then?

Yes produced by the luton news on green paper of course and usually thrown out of a van on the pavement near the newsagents about 6 30 pm

I remember picking up one similar to that on the way home from Bristol City a few years ago which covered there area and thinking it was a good idea, I suppose we have the internet now though which can cover all that you need on a Saturday night.

AWK - Did you go to the Loughton Orient game yesterday or were you at Kenilworth Road.

The Loughton Orient match was midweek Rhodes, we played Caddington yesterday.

 

I didn't go to Caddington though as I was at Kenilworth Road to witness a pathetic, useless and embarrassing "performance" that saw us all but relegated. Next match should see us down, away at Derby County-and on TV, oh joy!!! Expect Howard to be the bloke to send us down.

 

Unfortunately I didn't make the Loughton match either, as although i dropped the programmes of at 5 time ran away from me and the earliest I could have started to even think about making it back was at 7, by which time the first half would have been over.

Yes I should have realised but SteveR confused me as I was wondering why he didn't hook up with you at the game, apparently he's very shy and didn't attempt to make himself known to me when he attended the Harpenden Town v Kentish Town game earlier in the season, maybe he just didn't want to buy me a pint. It will be a sad day for Luton when they get relegated, they won't find it easy to get back in a hurry.

Luton have a habit of bouncing back maybe not next year tho. Born in Luton I still follow them from sunny Broadstairs but now watch the mighty Margate, we have other exiles from Luton who still follow the team.

We have some decent players at the club, but missing some key positions. If we get the right players in other the summer, and Blackwell can bring back the confidence and orginisation then we may well be in with a shout, it just seems a long way off at the moment!

One of my first memories of Luton Rhodes, I remember seeing Pleaty doing his jig of joy on TV as I was jumping around the room at the same time (come on, I was only 11).

He's not stupid, then!

Perhaps not but he can't be a very sociable person, he must have worked out who I was as there were very few people at Rothamsted Park that evening.

SteveR is heavily involved with one of Hendon's supporter's groups. Hardly sounds unsociable to me, unlike your trip to Ruislip Manor by all accounts!
