The Football Conference has ended its sponsorship deal with Nationwide and will switch to online betting firm Blue Square for next season.

A three-year deal has been signed with the new sponsors which will see the end of the Conference's nine-year association with Nationwide.

 

The Conference will now be known as Blue Square Premier.

 

The Conference North and South are to be renamed Blue Square Northern and Blue Square Southern respectively.

 

Football Conference chairman Bill King said: "Our league is the gateway to the clubs in the professional structure in the UK and is an established part of the UK football scene.

 

"I'm delighted to be seeing a piece of non-league football history in the making and am extremely excited about what this partnership with Blue Square can achieve."

Conference South/North sounds much better than Blue Square Northern etc. It's hard enough getting league fans to take NL fans seriously without rubbishing the names of our leagues! What have they done!

i still think it will be known as the conf south/north by the fans but in the media it will be the blue square conference north/south which does sound ridiculous

I love the way every time there is a restructuring/rebranding a "Premier" league is formed.

This nomenclature is becoming somewhat debased; how long until there is the "Courage Essex Pub Sunday morning Premier league", not to be confused with "Carlesberg Essex Pub Sunday afternoon Premier league"

The blazers in charge will soon have to start thinking along different lines to imply excellence. Perhaps they could take a leaf out of the credit card companies book and have Silver, Gold and Platinum Leagues.

the we lost to seville after giving it the large all season conference south!
