Bearing in mind the importance of nrxt weeks clash

Recommended Posts

Bearing in mind the importance of next weekend's clash between Kentish Town and Ampthill Town, where Ampthill would benefit through Kentish Town having to concede home advantage. Cockfosters are prepared to fling open the gates of Chalk Lane and invite KTFC to enjoy the benefits of playing on the hallowed turf rather than face a yomp to Ampthill.

Whether KTFC are prepared to accept the offer rests solely in the hands of Rhodes.

Rhodes has said in the past that he doesn't like the way you exploit the "postage stamp" dimensions of your pitch (gives you an advantage over his Brazilians who like to spray the ball around a big park). However, he'd be silly to turn you down as on present form the smaller the pitch, the better. And, of course, their beating Ampthill would do you no harm at all!

I have had to sadly decline Cockfosters very kind offer I'm afraid as arrangements with Ampthill Town have already been cemented and the fixture is advertised in todays's NLP as being played at Ampthill Park.

I thought that no-one in their right mind would believe anything in the NLP, especially after that April 1st spoof. Well never mind, I understand that Ampthill Park is more suitable to your 'Brazilian' footballing style. We'll just have to wait until the results on Saturday to see the proof of the pudding. As Horace quite rightly suggests, playing on our "Postage stamp" pich (incidently the identical size of the old Highbury) would have served you better in your current plight.

I would have much preferred to play at Chalk Lane rather than dragging ourselves all the way up to Ampthill however the Ampthill Park Club have been good in throwing their door open to us free of charge and we will keep the gate receipts from a 100 plus crowd. Notwithstanding that if I had known about Cockfosters kind offer two or three weeks ago I would have grabbed their arm out of its socket.

Of course they have - can't believe their luck, I'll bet! Can you tell us where you'll be playing next season yet, or is it still confidential?

Still confidential information I'm afraid until the SSML hierarchy confirm they are content, I'll probably announce it Manorborn style on Tuesday when I'm sure you will be able to hear the trumpeting in Hertford.

Let's stop all this poncing about. It's Copthall, folks. If the SSML allow them to play there (and there have been H&S issues with that stadium in the past) there will be a lot of maintenance required to keep it going week in week out.

Good luck to Kentish Town if they are allowed to play there as it will be a financial burden, but it's hardly the edge of the seat stuff clip Rods has been promising everyone.

We were going to play at Copthall at one point, but decided that it was going to be far too expensive. If it was too expensive for us as a Ryman Premier club - I don't see how Kentish Town will be able to pay their way there, particularly as they don't seem to be capable of paying their bills this season.

Asssuming its Copthall, some questions:

What would be the equivalent ground grading?

Has the location of the ground being outside of the 'Kentish Town' conurbation been approved by the SSML and FA?

Does the lease meet with SSML/FA rules?

Does the ground meet with the Appendix A? and do the floodlights come up to the required standard?

My lips are sealed until such time as I am able to make a formal announcement on behalf of Kentish Town Football Club, until then I'm not admitting or denying that we will be playing at the Copthall Stadium next season. I thank you.

Well yes that's a reasonably accurate statement, I'm merely the Club Secretary and mouthpiece dealing with paperwork and administrative matters, the Chairman is the main man who bankrolls the Club and the one who obviously has the final say at the end of the day.

Lets have a guess at the likely costs:

Stadium/pitch rental - 20 games at say £200 = £4000

Officials - 20 games at say £120 = £2400

Training facilities - say £100 for 36 weeks = £3600

League & FA fees/fines/kits/misc say = £2000

Managers budget - maybe 36 weeks at £150 = £4800

Total = £16800

Presumably the only income will be from the gate, on a good day say 30 people paying a fiver gives circa £3K over the season.
