I admire our travelling hordes for their dedication and for having the personal circumstances which allow them to spend so much time supporting the Club we all love. Their fantastic support has contributed significantly to our tremendous away form. However, contrary to the views held by some, football is not at the centre of the universe. Many of us have lives outside football and to such people football has to be regarded as a “hobby” – albeit a very important one and dear to our hearts.

This season I, like many, have spent as much time as can be spared in helping our Club in so many ways. This help does not simply involve attending matches or consuming vast quantities of alcohol.

Next season I will continue to devote as much spare time as possible in supporting The Urchins. However, if personal circumstances force me to attend fewer games instead of more I should be very aggrieved if anyone suggested I was less of a supporter by doing so.

All we can ask is that everyone does whatever they can to support this wonderful Club of ours. But please, don’t let those who do more (or think they do more) castigate others who find they can not do as much.

thanx sid and indeed you are right in what you say....but I don't think UM was actually having a dig at anyone..more a case of being concerned about losing floaters to the daggers next year.....

personally I do not share that view...I think NL fans are in for a shock when they find themselves in the unglamorous surroundings of div 2 dead end towns and their ramshackled stadiums with little atmosphere...next season we shall be in the ryman premier league which is arguably this season as strong if not stronger than conf sth and most likely will be next season again.....

wivenhoe saturday was a strange day for many...easter and family stuff...a 3 hour round trip...and bank holiday monday beano beckoning against our old friends from canvey at the bridge with the trophy presented....

I could have been tempted to miss it myself but I wanted to be there in case we won the championship....I was and we did and I'll warrant a fine turnout at the bridge tomorrow...

CHAMPIONS... yay

chill out sidney me old fruit. My point was that as the team was about to win the title yesterday i would of thought more fans would of been up there.I really expected at least another 100 to be up there yesterday. You are problably the last person i would criticise as even when you can't make a game you provide the live upates for others that can't make it.I appreciate that as do many others,i also appreciate the effort that the players and staff have made in winning us a double this season and i just think that those players deserve a large following to be at yesterdays game as a show of appreciation for their efforts.

I also appreciate those who can't get to games,my main gripe is that obviously some people went to see the dagenham match that would of probably come to ours and obviously see a bit of history created.I just wonder if some fans to a certain extent have become complacant in thinking we will win trophies and leagues all the time like we have done in the last 2 years as i don't think it will be easy at all next season and we should not expect to win leagues as comfortable as we have in that time.

100% agree UM. Honestly I wasn't being personal. The support you and the travelling Urchins have given the team this season has been priceless and must have been worth at least ten points. You have a wise head and I know you see the bigger picture. I just feel that some may not. Anyway, I am looking forward to the carnival tomorrow. I may even bring the camera!

Good post Sid and I agree with it entirely.

I'm very lucky that I'm in a situation where I have the time and money to follow Canvey on a regular basis but still have the time to spend with family and friends who are more important to me than any football club.

If I got my own place and moved out of the area or changed my job then unfortunately needs must and I would have to give up going to football to some extent.

I've missed a few games this season because I've had other things on but quite frankly and no disrespect to the teams involved I would rather go to Portugal or watch a decent concert than go to Ilford or Wivenhoe. Let's face it I can go to Ilford anytime I like. I may not get the opportunity to go to somewhere like Portugal again.

Agree with Unc, Easter probably played a part in less fans making the trip to Wivenhoe. Xmas and Easter are often the biggest times in the football calendar as local derbies are played or championships are decided. Unfortunately these are the times when families and friends want to spend time together so there's always a clash.

re attendances and fair weather supporters.

You only have to look at the average gate this season and compare that with the number of supporters who turned up at Roots Hall. If we had that every home game we would be laughing.

Every football club has the same problem and I think in all honesty we will see the fluctuation, as fans come and go.

Next season I would expect to see an increase in our gate, but wander down to Dagenham, you must be having a laugh!

i think we will average about 550 next season in a normal ryman prem season but if wimbledon are in there and ricay, chelmo and say canvey come up then i would expect that average to rise considerably.I think the gate tomorrow will be in the region of 1000 + hopefully

Last season we were getting 300-450 consistantly depending on the opposition, day etc.

This season we've boosted that to 400-550 consistantly.

Next season I think it'd be realistic to boost that to 450-650 consistantly perhaps even more considering the away support of teams. It'd odd to think we were only getting 500-650 consistantly in the Conference South....
